Hey guys, I am trying to get into a 2004 G35x in the new year. I just test drove a black on black, 2004 G35X with 45,125 miles all options except Navigation. Drives good, but has some minor body work throughout the car. I would most likely have to paint the whole car over. It has 15K miles or 15months left on the factory warranty and 30 day used car dealer warranty as well. The Dealer is asking for $22,000 out the door, I would just have to add DMV Reg. Fees on top of that. KBB says $17,000 trade value for fair condition, which this is the condition at which I would rate this car, and $20,000 trade in for excellent condition. Since the listed price is $19,999 I concluded that if I could get the car for $20,000 out the door without DMV fees I would be getting a good deal. Any input, comments and advice is welcome. Do you guys think its a good deal? Any tactics to make the dealer budge a little? Any suggestions? Oh, the car has the Nismo Aero Package as well. Carfax reveals minor fender bender which is on the passenger left quarter, bruise right above the passenger rear wheel and quarter. Interior is great, trunk too, but engine bay, really dusty. Car is a lease trade in, dealer bought at auction.
Thanks in advance guys. I left a refundable deposit, I will be going back next Saturday with my mechanic and father to see if a deal can be made. So all of your comments and suggestions would definitely be helpful.

A lease trade in bought at acution? Was it an Infiniti dealer? OK so what I'm hearing is an Infiniti dealer received this car back as a lease return but since they didn't want it they sold it at auction to the current dealership. Is that correct? If that's the case the dealer most likely bought the car for somewhere around $12-14K wholesale. Take a second look at your CarFax. It will show you the dates in which different ownerships has taken place. From the time the car was first leased, to the dealer taking it back, to the auction and hopefully nothing else. As for the term out the door, it usually includes all taxes and license fees. If you can get the car for 17K out the door then it's a good deal. Now this is base on the information you've given and I have worked for a car dealership as a sales person. Where are you located? Keep me posted.
Let me clarify, I will take a look at the car fax again, but this was not an Infiniti dealer. It is a private dealer. I am located in Queens, NYC and this particular dealer is in Palisades Park, NJ. I agree with you, I will go back with my friend/mechanic and father, and if they approve, offer $17k and walk out if no deal.... Any other advice is welcome. Thanks again.

I say pass on it, there are better deals to be had. Try to find a car that you know you are paying as much as the dealer got it for. You really shouldnt have to repaint a car that is 2 years old with 45k miles.
If the trade in value is 20,000 try to get as close to that number as possible.

Thanks for the advice guys, I will pass if the dealer is not willing to work with me.

Also, if you buy in NJ you will have to pay sales tax in NY when you register in NY. Of course, if you register it in NJ, you will pay NJ sales tax. I'd wonder why the original leasing Infiniti dealer didn't want to sell it themselves. It is a great idea to bring an independent mechanic to see the car. Good luck.
By the way, I love my G35x !

Is it Team Motor Sports on Ruby Ave in Pal Park? If so, I had a friend who bought a used lexus from them and she ended up breaking down because the oil was never changed and empty. This was confirmed by a Lexus dealership she had her car towed to because Team wouldn't own up to it, so I would be very wary of anything they have to sell. Try Ray Catena in Edison NJ or Park Ave Infiniti in Englewood NJ. I've delt with both of them and had great experiences with them. Plus you can get certified pre-owned and add the extended warranty in through Infiniti. By the way, I have an 04 g35x with 38k and I still owe $28,000 on the loan so I'm keeping mine for a while unless someone is willing to pay what I owe on it so I can walk away breaking even. The good thing is that I have the extended warranty on it now up to 100k. Its black on black with premium, nav and rear spoiler. Its been very reliable and has good power. I'm averaging about 20mpg on premium these days so just know it is not the best on gas. Good luck with your new future G. As long as it was maintained properly, you should have no problems with any of them.

I'd say keep looking around. Just bought my 2004 G35 (not the X) 6-speed sedan with 43K miles a couple weeks ago for $18000 from a local infiniti dealer, and the car needs no work whatsoever. I think you can find a better deal.

I've used Douglas Infiniti in Summit, NJ for my Infiniti purchases. I'm on my third-first a G20 and then an I30 and now the G35x. They were (are) all very good cars for what they were meant to be and very reliable.
I've had great customer service from Douglas and recommend them highly. They are a smaller, family-owned, dealership.

Thank you all for the advice and help. I saw another G35X, Brilliant Silver in Westbury, LI, NYC. I have slowly realized that this particular deal is definitely not worth it, especially after Mdkip's friend's horror story. (THANKS!)
What about a 2004 G35X, 11,xxx miles, Brilliant Silver, Cream Interior, fully loaded (no navi), with Nismo Aero Kit and Spoiler. Asking $25,6xx.
Do you guys think if I can get it in the range of $20K - $22K out the door its a good deal? I will go check it out this weekend. Keep you all updated.
By the way, if anyone knows someone interested in a 1997 Turbo Maxima, shoot me a PM. Thanks again.
Thanks again guys for your responses and sound advice.
