Sports Sedan comparisons...

Hello everyone, this is my first time on the forums and I have a dilemma in front of me.

I'm 17 in the Northern New Jersey Area and my parents have offered to buy me a car. I've always liked to be a educated consumer and I found this is where I would be able to find a honest knowledgeable opinion.

The genre of cars I'm into are sports sedans, I like having the room and the performance as well.

My budget is around 25-30k and I'm really into the g35x... I feel like the value is unbeatable.

Im trying to choose between a 2005-06 325xi, a 2005-2006 and highly doubtful but maybe a 2007 g35x, and a 2005-2006 aero 93.

I like a fast and maneuverable car and I also really really need a bumpin sound system so I can blast some gangster rap.

If you were in my shoes... what would you get?

We're all a little bias here, but out of those cars listed, the G35 is your best choice because of cost, features, performace and comfort.

I would suggest you looking into an Acura TL, that is the best bang for the buck in my opinion. If your willing to give up some performace for a much nicer interior, I would look into a TL.

When I was shopping for a car it was the G35 or TL, I felt the TL was more refine as far as the interior goes, but I'm still young and I wanted performace. In the end I went with the G35, even though a similar equiped TL was a couple thousand less.

Also I polled some of my female friends, that all agreed that the Infiniti brand was more towards the luxury side, while an Acura was just a very nice car, not really what they would consider a luxury car brand....

I understand you want a car real bad, especially a nice one at 17. However, a car is a depreciating asset. Have you thought about buying a used car and investing the other 15-20k in a Vanguard Index Fund? In 10 years time, that 20k could do the working for you, and you could be sitting pretty.

On your short list, I would take the 325 over the G and the Saab. The handling and steering on the Beamer is like no other, but for the total package, I'd take the G.

I knew I would get flamed for this...

I know I'm young, I know the car may be more expensive then others would get at my age. I've been driving a 1986 325e for months now and my parents have seen the responsibility I have shown this is why they're offering to get me a newer car.

I think im leaning towards searching for an 05 g35x... btw why cant the dealer put spoliers on the x's?

Who says they can't? I don't know if the spoiler is a factory option or not, but the dealer can put one on for you. Just make sure you get a real one if you pay for a real one...

I am 16 not even 17 and i drive 03 G35 sedan 6MT

Its ok if your parents are willing to buy you a car in that price range then i vote the G, but one suggestion get a used G, like with low miles. THen with the extra money put it into the car.

THings have changed since I was 17. However, my first car was a '70 Chevy Nova with a 327CI, than a '68 Chevy Chevelle with a 396CI, '79 Chevy Monte Carlo with 386CI (mod 350CI to be a stroker engine), Ford THunderbird 4.6L, and now I have a G35 Sedan.

when u mod and what not.. does it void any warranties?
would plan to do is put in a sound system and a aftermarket navi or something and maybe some performance upgrades.

well depends on how much you mod your stereo. You might void your alternator with a pimping stereo -- but basically there is a law -- that states that unless the mod you did IS the cause of your problem your warrenty is in tact.

Out of those choices the G is the best bang for the buck. The 325 is a great car but underpowered.

Go for the G!

Since your parents will most likely not buy you ANOTHER car later, go for the G. I expect that your total cost of ownership will be much lower, and it will be more reliable once you have some miles on it. Think about 3 years from now, you're in college, and how sweet it will be to have a paid off car that looks and performs great and is inexpensive to maintain.

That said, I agree with Kimbo80. If you have the option, get a sweet 300ZX for $8K and put the rest into an S&P fund if your parents will agree to that. As much as I love them, cars are ****ty investments!
