Dealership sold an non-certified G

Need to vent.

Because of our expanding family we traded our 04 Coupe for a 3.5 Sedan. At the time of purchase we were told that the car is CERTIFIED. After checking out the car everything looked in order drives really well, brakes bite hard and no accidents with the exception that each door has a ding. On our way home, my wife driving the G and I was following right behind her noticed the
3rd brake light was not functioning. The next morning I took the car out and noticed the rear deck rattling while listening to the radio (BOSE system) and if that wasn't enough something in the headlight caught my eye. After closer inspection I notice some type powder within the housing. So we brought the car back to infiniti to have the issues looked at. We recieved the call from the service tech advising us of a BLOWN subwoofer, replaced 3rd brake light front headlight and found out that the car was NOT certified.

After speaking with the manager they apologized profusely explaining that the car was sold too fast and that it was never "fully" certified and that they would look into it. What type of BS is this. Now I'm wondering if there is anything else wrong with the car also because its certified should those dings been taken care of? Could this be a possible lawsuit?

After get the car back the only compensation we got was a full tank of gas. The car was 3/4 when we brought it in.

What do you guys think?

I hear ya,

Check this out. Bought my 04 G35 2 fridays ago. Not even 5 Days later My Idler Pulley seized, and snapped the belt. The car was supposed to be certified with 25000 miles. Does that happen at 25000 miles...I don't think so. But the car is under factory warranty and i aslo purchased an extended warranty so i was too pissed! But it makes me think that the certification doesn't mean crap. But i love the freakin car, car wait to start toying with it.

There is a 3 day rule of contracts ( I think) dealing with auto sales. I think you do have a case, and they already admitted guilt. You should probably consult an attorney ASAP to know your rights. More than likely the dealer will chicken out of litigation and give in to reasonable demands.

Certification does not mean all that much.

My story:

Found my 04 6MT at a Fields Infiniti in the Chicago land area. Was told that it was certified. Not only did it come with the 100K mile power train warranty but also a full Infiniti backed bumper to bumper warranty for 100K miles. I had seen ton's of used G's with the extended power train, but none with the 100K mile bumper to bumper. Asked several times about the bumper to bumper warranty, and that I needed to see the paper work showing it as so. Well, through the negotiation process I never saw the paper work. Made a deal on the car and put a deposit down and had a check for the car over nighted from my Credit Union. Done Deal.

Went to pick up the car the next day after the check arrived. Again, told them I wanted to see the paper work on the 100K mile bumper to bumper warranty. After waiting a half hour the sales guy tells me that he made a mistake and the car did not have the 100K bumper to bumper. They were nice enough to offer me the 100K bumper to bumper warranty for only $750 extra....

Needless to say I was very upset. To make a long story short, after many hours of going back an forth and taking the issue to the owner of dealership they stood behind our deal and certified the car to the 100K mile bumper to bumper warranty at no extra cost to me. (It is also a $0 deductible policy )

The thing is they never inspected the car beyond what they already had. All they did was fill out the paperwork. With lower mileage late model used cars I really don't believe they do anything different to "Certify" them.

What I would do you in your situation is figure out the price difference between certified and non certified, basically what you paid more for it being certified. There is not a exact number, but figure out the reasonable difference using either the cars they are selling as certified and non certified or use KBB, Edmunds, NADA etc. Demand that amount refuded or that they take the car back. They are not going to want to take the car back, and if you stand your ground without getting upset or being unreasonable they will most likely take care of things to your satisfaction. They can't sell the car under false pretense like that and they know it. It took me going up several levels of management and standing my ground to get satisfaction, I suggest you do the same.

Dosen't a car have to be serviced by the dealer since new to be certified? That's what my understanding of certified is, and if it wasn't serviced by the dealer, it doesn't qualify. I may misunderstand that, but that's what I was toild.

I'd go back and raise hell there. They flat out LIED to you. If they won't certify it, demand they take the car back and get you one that is.

If there are still problems, call your local Better Business Bureau and the local news stations...they LOVE hearing about businesses defrauding customers.

Sorry man, but techs don't pull off the belts and inspect the pullies during the certification process. A seized pulley is rare and is not something that is easily inspected. They fixed it under warranty so I hardly see how this is a big issue.

I think you have forgotten a problem with a vehicle is inevitable and can happen at any time(Although idler pulley problems are extremely rare). It was obviously taken care of under warranty and leaving you with no expense. Therefor your situation has nothing to do with a vehicle being certified or not. I'm sure the engine was checked for certification thoroughly. I've seen what is involved when we certify our Infinitis and I can assure we stand behind each and every one of them.

I'm sure your situation was just a mishap and not an isolated incident. You must remember that mistakes can happen. I really don't post on hear that often, but I get extremely upset when all you guys do is flame dealerships when they make mistakes. We would'nt be one the top dealerships in the nation for customer service if we did not treat people the right way. Our sales staff ranks up there as well.

Well I gotta say when we bought our first car the customer service was excellent we even gave high scores on the survey. This is one of the reasons why we decided to stay with Infinitiy. You would think being a return customer that we would be treated in the same manner. Let's say this wasn't an isolated incident but it makes you wonder how many times this has slipped through the cracks? I mean how the hell do you sell a car that you claim is certified and isn't?!? Your selling a car under false pretenses and we would never have found out this car was not certified unless we brought it back for service. Bottom line is I am a very unhappy customer and that I feel that I was lied to and that I was made out to be one of those stupid customers that doesn't know anything and that I was just an "easy" sell! Also about your sales staff I wouldn't pride myself on that if you base it on the guy that sold us the car because he was very cocky telling me how much money he makes there and that out of everyone on the sales staff he works the hardest thus he makes the most commission as far as i'm concerned who the f*!% cares!

Hey, I'll vouch for you guys, for sure! Is your car dirty John? Mine looked like a glazed donut, so I went to the car wash! Now it's nice and clean!

checka ll your paperwork to see if the car states it was certified or not.... if it says it on the paperwork then bring it back and have them certify it.
