Tint and the Law
I got pulled over for a pretty hefty speeding ticket last month by CHP. I have no front licence plate and tints all around. The CHP officer said nothing about the plate or the tint. First off, I wasn't mouthing off at all, so that probably paid dividends, and my tint isn't so dark that the officer couldn't see through the windows. maybe I got lucky, but this is the exact reason I didn't go too dark with the tints.

What I'm curious about is how are the "stock looking" sedans holding up. I would think the G sedan would bring less attention and therefore if you had tint on front windows and even if you were running w/o a front plate, they wouldn't hassle you. What are you guy's experience?

I had 35% front and rear for about 5 months..One morning after taking my daughter to school,a CHP made a u-turn,pulled me over for the front tint only..
At the time, all I had done was a z-tube and K&N drop-in..Every day I see lots of cars and especially SUV's with limo tint , makes me wonder why they haven't been pulled over...Luck of the draw, I guess..Thinking of having 50%
put on the front..We'll see...

The reason most cops pull you over for tint, plate, etc is to talk to you. They want to see who you are and what you are doing. If you have no warrants, are not high/drunk, and are cooperative; most cops won't write you a ticket. But if you think you are a jail house lawyer and give an attitude, almost every cop will write you a ticket.
FYI this does not apply to traffic cops because they have to write you a ticket to justify their existence. No there is no legal quota, but if all you do is enforce traffic laws, you have to justify your position by writing tickets.

$125?? Is that the actual fine, or the cost of tint removal? I thought the fine was around $10-15 for fix it tickets
Sounds like wishfull thinking................
If the CHP takes the time to pull you over you'll be getting a ticket! With my
previous car and my G it has been 15 years that I haven't run a front plate.
And both cars have had 35% tint.......all my cars have had rims and exhaust
systems so I don't have a factory appearance....not even close! Bottom line
I've been damn lucky.......or maybe since my hair has turned gray they figure
I have paid my dues.......haha!

I think age/sex is a major flag as well. I would think if you are over 40 or female, you probably wouldn't draw much attention.
why do u guys keep mentioning front license plates??? in florida the front is for watever the hell you wana put, be it a disney plate or a nismo plate, doesnt matter. somebody please fill me in on this front plate thing?
My wife was driving the G and at the time it was bone stock. She got pulled over for having too dark of a tint on the driver and passenger side which I don't think was that dark. What I don't get is that the tint came like that when I purchased the car.
In alot of states, Ca in particular,it is illegal to not run a front license plate..That said alot of people don't have them..In my case it was 8:00 am the CHP made a u-turn and pulled me over..I learned long ago to be polite to any law enforcement officer(Have been let go a few times when speeding)In this case it didn't help and he wrote me a fix-it ticket although he was very cool about it..In CA tint shops will tell you it's a violation to have tint on the front windows..

Just drove into work and a moto cop was sitting right next to me, with my 70% front tint. He didn't blink an eye. This going past LAX where they will pull you over for sneezing too loudly.
In Phoenix you can have up to 35% on your front windows. I have had 20% all around for the last 18 months with no problems and I've been pulled over a few times. I think since my car is black it helps make the tint look lighter.

Adding to the attraction (mods) just brings more trouble. I'm not saying I agree because I don't, but I do believe it to be true. Most of the time it ends up being a bad experience and that causes the officer to lean harder on the next guy. And the next.
Then you read 'this stoopid cop pulled me for no reason' when in fact it something they've been conditioned to from past experiences. They may pull you for what they see as an illegal exhaust or no plate or tint or whatever, and then dump all over you because of attitude or what they see on your record when they bring it up. If you have a couple of fix-it tickets for tint, and you still have the tint, brace for shock...
Vicious cycle. Stop the madness.

35% tint on the windshield for a year now, no problems. Ive even "talked" to a couple state troopers (last one actually congratulated me on making it through the toll plaza at "warp speed" when he wasnt running radar, too bad my damn sunpass battery died and set off the toll light) and have never had one even look at the windshield. Got a damn toll plaza ticket though.
I actually like fix it tickets, theyve gotten me out of more speeding tickets than I can count. Id rather get a ticket for the wrong insurance card, my tag light being out, etc than the other.
Ive had 20% all around for about 8 months, no plate and rims TB sedan i havent gotten pulled over once for either, got a speeding ticket cop said nothing about the tint. Ive even been right next to a cop at a stoplight with windows up and he said nothing...maybe ive just gotten lucky. But for the most part most of my friends get pulled over when they spartically try to roll down thier windows when the see a cop, the cop notices therefore pulls them over. I always roll on by like i have nothing illegal on my car and it seems to work fine. *knock on wood*
