Remote start with Intelligent key - school me

I'm thinking about hooking up my wifes G for Valentines Day. There is no way I am going to try to install this myself, so please tell me what you have and what to look for. I'd like to get something that works with the factory fob (yeah, I know the range sucks and all, but my wife is not going to carry two fobs around with her) How much should I expect to pay for this? Should I even bother with the dealer?

What brand of starter is this, or does it even matter? Why does it kill the valet key? Would using the starter remote solve this?

You wouldn't happen to be anywhere near Westchester County (NY), would you?

You have to use a module and insert the valet key so the system has one onboard to start.

I am doing a remote start with Clifford, 2 way alarm + remote start. It looks like I need 3 keys so I bought a couple of ebay and had a local locksmith her cut and program both for $55

You need 3 keys?!? For what?

1 for the immobilizer, what are the other two for? I only needed one for mine, but mine is also an 04.

This has quickly gone over my head. Why do you need an extra key for the remote starter?

^^^^^^ I'm with them, why would you need 3?

I only had to use my valet key.

You need 2 keys to program the 3rd key. You dont HAVE to have 3 but it would be nice to have a spare right..... I bought my car used so I only got one key but I bought two more off the net and they are ready to go!!!

There is a chip in our keys, or in your case the key FOB. The chip has to be in range of the starter, usually inside the cabin of the car, in order for your car to start. If no chip is present, the car won't start. So you have to keep a chip in your car at all times, thus the valet key, so you will be able to remote start your car.

I did a little research on this before, it's a little box where you keep the key in and there is a ring which attaches close to the ignition. The box sends the code from the key to this ring which in turn makes the car think that the chip is within range.

Alrighty, here's what I've learned.

1. Most remote starters are all pretty much made by the same company (DEI)
2. A blank Infiniti transponder key (not the fob, just the key) runs anywhere from $20 on eBay to almost $100 from the dealer.
3. Cutting and programming a transponder key runs anywhere from $40 to $95 at Nissan or Infiniti dealer; no locksmiths I went to have the needed software.
4. Went to three local automotive toy stores; one wouldn't touch it. One said $375 with my valet key (add $60 - $195). The other said $550 with a bypass unit that does not need a key.
5. Infiniti dealer said $495 and it won't affect the warranty.
6. Intelligent Key is an expensive pain in the ****.

I'm dropping it at the dealer (and getting a loaner) next week.
