Handling question

I have a 04 Infiniti G35 and handled great at the beginning. In the past year or so, If I go over 70 miles an hour, it feels like the car is going all over the place. A little bit of floating. If I sway the steering to the right/left, it goes in the direction more than It should, then I have to sway it back to where I wanted it. I thought it was wheel alginemtn and I got that done. It still hasnt gone away.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,

Prathab

If you have changed your tires in the past year it could be the difference in tires. Sounds like a little Tire flex to me.

I changed tires a little over a year ago. These are Z rated tires as well.

What is that supposed to mean? I have 90K plus miles on my sedan and it is still glued to the highway at 80 mph plus. Beggs to be driven faster at 100 mph. Will probably outperform a stock coupe.

If it's hunting around the lane, you need to get an alignment check. Your toe-in is not. It's gone to "toe-out".

Damn again with this issue? Whats up with these guys with <30 post count and their tire issues? I don't want to accuse you of trolling but damn thats twice within the past few days.

Like the others have mentioned, get your tires and/or alignment rechecked

dude.. i am having the same problem with my sedan.. its a 03....it was driving fine before getting 2 new tires installed in the back. I had alignment done also. the car goes straight but when u touch the steering its really sensitive now..i went back to the mechanic and he said it was the AIR inbalance..one tire had 27 and other had 34...this is the day after i got 2 new tires and aligntment done from them. I found out from someone that a professional Aligntment is supposed to be done with PROPER tire air to begin with.

The mechanic who worked on my car is gone on vacation for a week. I cannot drive my car more then 80-100km/h on the highway..the steering is too loose and feels like car is gona go out of control. Could it be cuz i have 2 new tires in back and 2 used tires in front with 85% thread remaining. Or is my steering rack f*ked up?

Unless the tires on the back are a different BRAND/Style, you had an inexperienced tech do the alignment.

I have had new tires come out of a tire shop on my car with anywhere from 25 to 55 pounds in them. Most times they forget to check after the bead seals.

The handling issue can be a multitude of things including:

1) Inconsistent road surfaces. Does this happen all the time above 70mph or just on certain roads?

2) Incorrect tire inflation. With the stock 17" rubber, your PSI should only be at around 32.

3) A broken sway bar endlink. This is unlikely, but is possible. If it were broken, you'd probably hear some clanking. An easy check would be to pull each rim and inspect the suspension components.

4) Wind. Is it windy where you're at? High wind conditions will influence the handing and response.

5) In your head. It is quite possible that this might all be in your head. The longer you own a car, the more tame the car will feel. This goes for handling, braking, and acceleration.

As for shocks or springs, I doubt they're a problem. These compontents shouldn't wear out that quickly unless you live in an area with absolutely horrible roads or you're running lowering springs with non-Sport shocks.
