Okay so I picked up a sweet set of rims (thanks Tim) and brand new tires had them mounted and balanced twice and both shops said they zero'd them out. Bought hub-centric rings had my car alligned and above 70ish I my car has a case of the shakes. Now I'm thinking it might be due to the fact that I went from OEM 16's to 20's but a couple of people have told me that shouldn't be the case.

My car is an 03 base model (w/o sport suspension) so I'm wondering if that has anything to do with it. Need help figuring this out guys, let me know what else you think could be causing my car to shake above 70. Thanks guys

 

u may have bought the wrong hub rings or they coul dbe installed wrong....

 

sounds like bad hub rings...

if the wheels were balanced incorrectly than it would generate a sort of droning sound

 

Most likely a balancing issue--I'm not sure that it would make a droning sound. I've had plenty of unbalanced tires in the past and they never droned--just always shook at 60+ MPH. I also had a set of RIMS/tires that used to shake a lot on my old Maxima. Had them balanced about 5 times at 3 different Firestones (had lifetime balance with them) and the shake never did go away. Finally two of the RIMS warped, so I replaced all 4 rims/tires, and the shake went away. They were Mille Miglia Evo5's...Will never get those again.

 

i worked a a tire shop for a year and a half I would say your hub rings, type of balance they did or the tires itself are bad! PM me if you need more explaination

I've mounted/balanced over 5000 wheels/tires in the last 2.5 years. They should have used a dynamic balance with tape weights on the inside of the wheels. But there is also a good chance one of the tires is bad. Take it to a Discount Tire/America's Tire Co. that has a Hunter Road Force balancer and have them check it out.

lol i hate that place too my dad worked there back in the day and had a tranny fall on him and broke his back and that was a nightmare!

 

are you using any type of spacer ?

 

I didn't have any problems with balance when they were on my car. I don't think it's the rims.

 

I doubt it, they are 20x8.5 and 20x10.

 

yup these are it. No spacers are being used. No droning what so ever. Tires are brand spanking new. I guess I'll have to go get them balanced again at Discount cuz I can only imagine what the ride quaility is gonna feel like if I drop it. The rings did fit as they're supposed to as well. This sucks. I mean it's bearable but I know it shouldn't shake the way it does especially over 80 mph.
