Oil Odor

Hey guys I have noticed after driving the G for a hour+ that when I idle, a odor comes through the heating ducts. This is not a heavy odor but noticable. Seems like oil or possibly coolant(I doubt it is coolant not quite that sweet of a smell). Any thoughts(of course there are). Thanks in advance.

06 G35x auto 9k for you reference.

Check your oil level. My 06 6MT is at the dealers right now having the engine replaced. It was burning 1 + quart every 3000 miles. I also could smell a very faint oil burning smell when the car was at idle, especially after I drove it for any distance.

It could be normal. Once the car gets hot it will have the coolant/oil smell. It's always a good idea to keep an eye on your oil level.

I have the same problem. I have a leak somewhere, just haven't found it yet. Lost 1/2 qt. in 3000 miles.

Could be oil leakage around the rocker covers.

If there are no visible leaks on engine, no oil consumption and your oil changes were done by neat guy who wiped everything up have your engine shampood.
I had smell of oil/heated rubber smell from heater vents and took it to dealer. Didn't find anything wrong(heater is OK, no leaks) , shampood the engine, smell is gone at least for now. Rep explained that road grime accumulates on engine over time and location of heater air intake is very close to engine bay, so it sucks all smells in.
I hope it helps.

1/2 qt in 3k is very normal for the VQ.

A Jim wolf oil pan spacer to add an extra qt. is a good idea for those who don't check their oil often.
