Minimum Octane Recommendations?

2006 Sedan G35 - Manual Recommendation vs. Gas Tank Panel Recommendation

In my manual for the 2006 Sedan G35 it says 87 minimum for a Sedan and I think 91 only if it's a Coupe. In the gas tank, in the panel it says 91 is recommended for optimal performance or something like that. Anyone else notice this?

Does anyone see any problems with using 87?

Thoughts/opinions/suggestions.... thanks!

91 minimum.

And there's like a million threads on this. No need to even search, you can look at the first couple of pages in this section and you'll see atleast 1.

I only use 93, but technically you can use whatever doesn't make your engine ping. You may lose some performance w/ lower grade, but as long as there's no pre-detonation, you should be ok.

The car runs fine on 87, but loses quite a bit of power on the top end. When I got my 05 6MT I was putting 100 miles a day on it on the interstate, so I used 87. So the power loss was not a big deal for the $ savings. But one day with the car full of 87, a friend in a 04 Mustang GT wanted to race. I beat him off the line but he pulled a car length on me over a 1/4 mile. This was on the street, so we planned a day at the strip. Little did he know I started using 93 and went to the track with an 1/8 of a tank. This time, I beat him off the line, missed 3rd and still beat him by a car length. He was pissed. The G's computer makes huge adjustements, 87 will not hurt it, but it will make a lot less power. Impressive system if you ask me.
