260 or 280?

i've heard conflicting opinions on the hp rating of my '04 6MT sedan.

some say that the rated 260 is low and the actual flywheel hp is 280.

can anyone clear this up for me? thanks...

I think what you will find is that most people with pre-05's are putting out approximately the same power as the 5ATs that are rated at 280 (05-06). I think the common assumption is that the 03-04's were underrated at 260.

on the sticker it will say 260/260...that's pretty close to being correct...the 280/270 was a bit overrated.

The 2003/2004 6MT were putting down about 230-235whp which equates to ~276hp (235/0.85). The 5AT cars put down about 220whp which equates to 275hp (220/0.80). You also look at the 1/4 mile times and more specifically the trapspeeds which are an indication of available HP. The data shows that the 03-06 cars, 5AT and 6MT are all compared (not including the 05+ 6MT rev ups).

The 03's didn't have electric fans so they are definately down a little bit of power stock for stock.

^^ yes, there's an electric fan conversion. Search for that, they had a big thread on it a while ago.

excellent, this is helpful. you confirm that infiniti was sandbagging the sedan hp numbers.
there seems to be many variations of the VQ engines with outputs from 235-298hp, however in different classes of cars.
it makes sense that the sedan/coupe hp's were similar as it is the same car essentially

I see over and over again people stating the 03/04's were underrated. Here's a dyno of my 05 6mt revup versus Cheryl's 04 5at sedan. Both were right at 10k miles when dyno'd, within a half hour of one another, and both were stock.

Autos aren't, 6MTs are.
