30K Maintainance- how important is AT flush?

May be some expert guy can help me out to sort this out. there are mixed reports here.
Do I really need to change the AT fluid and coolant at 30K????
Please let me know, only if you really know the answer.
Thanks in advance.

I would. Maybe not a full flush but drain and refill for sure.

If you are gonna keep the car a long time, go ahead with the AT flush. The coolant I would wait until 60k. I think it is 2 yrs/30k for coolant after the first one at 60k.

When in doubt, I recommend first checking the Infiniti manufacturer maintenance schedules. In the case of my 2004 5AT, there are three possible maintenance schedules. In increasing order of intensity, they are called:

1. "Schedule 2" maintenance (for mostly highway driving in temperate conditions). Inspect A/T fluid at 30k miles or 24 months and thereafter every 15k miles or 12 months. No replacement/flushing is indicated.

2. "Schedule 1" maintenance (when you drive repeated short trips, or stop-and-go traffic, dusty, rough conditions, or when towing). Inspect A/T fluid at 30k miles or 24 months and thereafter every 15k miles or 12 months. No replacement/flushing is indicated.

3. "Premium" maintenance - "for owners who want the ultimate in preventative maintenance". Replace A/T fluid at 30k miles or 24 months.

So you see there's a big difference between the "normal" maintenance schedules and the (excessive in my opinion) "Premium" schedule. What's reality? Probably something in between. I'd say 40-50k miles is probably fine between flushings.

I took my car to a mechanic that I knew for the 60k maintenance and he said that everything was in good condition. I showed him what the dealer said should be done at 60k and he double checked it and said the only thing I needed was just to change my a/c and my drive belt and an oil change. I asked about the at transmission flush and he said that it shouldn't be needed until 75k. I don't see a reason why he would lie so I trusted him and said I'll be back in another 15k miles then. So all in all I saved about 275 bucks. (Nissan wanted 390 plus tax just to inspect the belts and not replace them and top off all the fluids and at flush/tire rotation/ and some other stuff) My Infiniti dealer wanted 515 plus tax for the same services as Nissan.

I would've had the tranny flushed before 60k, just as a preventative measure. Honestly, sometimes you have to take someone's opinion w/ a grain of salt. Definately stick w/ the owner's manual.

+1. I'm keeping my G for few years so I went ahead with the drain and fill (not the flush). I don't remember the exact numbers but the drain and fill took about 3-5 quarts of J-Matic at about $100. Flush is a lot more as it will require about 2 times more fluid (if I recall correctly) to refill.

I didn't do the coolant at 30K. I did do a rear differential drain and fill as well. Just a little preventative maintenance in my opinion...
