All I have is the spacers on. I didn't put on the studs and it works perfectly fine for me. Some people say it's a little dangerous but I like dangerous!

At first i didnt get longer studs. But that ended with my Rear tire almost falling off.. Spacer sizes are 5mm. So i say yes longer studs are needed. I even took it too a shop to get my tires rotated and they refused to work on the car due to the lack of thread left with the spacer on.
