First Winter in G35!!!!

Wat's up, I got my 2003.5 G full body kit everythin in July... This is my first winter or pre-winter first snowfall in G today and VDC was amazing I saw other RWD cars sliding and slipping you could feel a little slip in the G but it corrected itself immediately. Drving on roads was good but the problem was MY DRIVEWAY!!!! It took me 35-45 minutes to get up it lol with little gas brake inching up wowo that was HORRIBLE but i love the car, soooooo guess ill have to deal with it PEACE!

Wat'ssss Realllyyyy Goooodddd!!!!!

Re: First Winter in G35!!!!

Only one solution to that problem bro: you'll have to shovel (or blow) the driveway b4 parking. .

Re: First Winter in G35!!!!

Today will be the first true test for my 2004 G35x. NJ is expected to get several inches of snow today.

Re: First Winter in G35!!!!

I'm in NJ and I was more than a little worried since today was the first time I have driven in the snow with rwd but my G35s was much better than I thought.

Getting away from a standing start was a little tricky because the back end stepped out a little, but it wasn't hard to recover and I was getting along better than a lot of fwd cars I saw. But I still don't think I would take a chance driving around with a lot of snow on the ground.

Re: First Winter in G35!!!!

I had an AWFUL time driving home from work today. On the highway it was fine, but I have a slow gradual hill near my house, and it took about 20 minutes to get up it. I finally backed all the way down, then gunned it WITHOUT VDC. I had an easier time in some of my cobra's than this, and the only thing I can attribute it to is the tires. I think I will have to get some blizzaks or something.

Try using the manual shift mode in that situation, not sure this tranny will let you stay in 2nd from a stop, but I always did that in my Mustang, that plus the traction control sure made a difference!

I did, it didn't work. It kept it in first.

Blizzaks rule! I drove my coupe today no problems at all. This car is pretty damn good for rwd with snows on. The vdc does great.

Re: First Winter in G35!!!!

I equipped our G with Michelin Pilot Sports A/S in the hope that they would be much better than stock in the dry and wet; they are, well worth the extra $$ spent before taking delivery. I hoped that this tire would be good for snow as well but today proved that this was wrong. The 7+ inches of snow today showed me that I DO need snows. I have several fairly steep hills around where I live and found that even with VDC I could not get up the hill, or indeed move a few feet through unplowed snow on a side feeder road.

The upshot is that I ordered Dunlap M3s (225/55/17s) on Speedline 2113 wheels through Tirerack. Good deal on the rims at $149 each (17x8s, check it out!) and tires are in-stock only at their Indiana location. If some of you live in hill country and get any kind of snow, you might want to strongly consider dedicated snows....

My opinion of rubber is get the best you can afford, tires are cheap compared to bent sheetmetal!

2K Maxima, 5-spd, Bose, "the works". Mods: FSTB, RSB, H&Rs, KYB GR-2s, Brembos, more to come?!?

Re: First Winter in G35!!!!

I've had 225/60-16 Blizzak LM-18s since last October. Great tire with good dry road performance.

I was surprised at how good my Pilot Sport A/Ss were in about 4" of snow! Better than any other A/S tire I've ever driven. Not great backing up though in deeper snow. That said, there is NO substitute for dedicated winter rubber!

Re: First Winter in G35!!!!

You said it Gordgee...You absolutely need WINTER tires to drive in the snow safely/correctly!

Also, to reiterate a point for an earlier poster...out ATs, when in manumatic mode, only hold that gear as a maximum...not a minimum...like on earlier Pontiac Grand Prixs they had a winter traction mode where the car would take off in 2nd gear...with an auto...the Gs do not do that...if you have it in 3 it will go 1, 2, and stay in 3...FYI.

Re: First Winter in G35!!!!

Pretty much the same story as the rest of you. Tried to drive with the summer tires and had horrible results. Even my Miata with Pilots was better than this. Even the old 5.0 Mustang was better than this.
So I called Tirerack and have a set of rims and Blizzaks on the way by next Friday. Until then the car sits in the garage unless there black pavement everywhere.
BTW, I had ordered a 2003 with the winter kit and tires, but when the 2004 came standard with Winter I ASSumed all season tires as well. Wrong.... At least the summer tires are great. Here's hoping the Blizzaks are good too.

Re: First Winter in G35!!!!

What are the "summer" tires I keep hearing about, and what are the "winter" tires?
