I am having a weird noise when I go over bumps(not all bumps)
What happens is when I drive and go over little bumps and small crack in the road I can't hear a thing

BUT

when I travel over speed bumps I hear something is loose, sounds in the front on the drivers side.(its hard to describe that sound) I have checked my inside of the car and everything is secured I don't have things laying around. Could it be something in the wheele area?
I know I have to change my brakes but I doubt that its the brakes...I have pushed on the front of the car my shocks seem fine the car doesn't bouch up and down (which mean my shocks are ok) I assum.

This noise is driving me nuts

Anyone with a related issue?

Check edmunds.com for a list of all the TSBs applicable to your car, but that noise could be anything from a loose strut mount to the belly pan missing a bolt or two from the last oil change. It may be something as simple as the gas struts themselves; I hear mine when I go over speed bumps, and it only sounds like it's coming from the front driver's side because it's closest to the driver's seat.

 

StarChamp thanks for the input, I did have an oil changed done by a new tech last time since my mechanic was on vacation, I will look into that...

 

question I live in Canada, could the cold weather freeze the fluid in the shocks? so my shocks aren't properly working making those noises?

 

Yes, your description does sound like the well-known "Compression Rod" problem. Do a search on the forum here for those words. There IS NOT a TSB on the Compression Rod defect.

 

I have been complaining to the Infiniti dealer of Raleigh NC about as they have refused to replace the compression rods (they say this is noise characteristic to this vehicles!). I checked with the Infiniti dealer of Greensboro and they said that they don�t replace the rods either; they treat the noise as maintenance/lubrication item. More specifically they spray the bushings with a silica spray. I spayed them myself and to my surprise the noise has fully disappeared, cannot get to creak under any circumstances. I don�t know how long the noise will stay away but for the last 10 days I feel I drive new car.

 

Congrats. Maybe you could post a little DIY instruction on this. What brand lubicant did you use? Where did you apply it? How much? Did you lift the car, or just spray from the wheel well, etc?

My experience has been that when the dealer lubricated the bushings, it only had a little effect, and even that quickly disappeared (within 1-2 days).

 

I had the same problem too just last week. Took it to the dealer and per the service invoice, they lubricated and cleaned the "tension rod". It was done under warranty...

 

yeah first I will do my front brakes so the dealer can't give me exuses that its coming from the brakes, then I will take it to the dealer...

 

Here is how I did it: I used Heavy Duty Silicone Spray made by CRC. I had bought it few months back from Wal-Mart I believe just to have it around as a general purpose no petroleum based lubricant; no intention to use it for the bushings; I don�t think you want to use a spray that contains petroleum oils on rubber; I believe 3M has something similar. I raised both front wheels using 2 jacks so that I can turn the wheels left and right; I didn�t remove them. I freely sprayed the compression bushings that are attached to the frame from the top/sides and the bottom bolt, then I sprayed the bushing that connected to the wheel/suspension; I turned the wheel left and right and made sure that I sprayed them all around and turned the wheels left and right few more times to make sure the liquid penetrated properly. Moved to the other (right) wheel and repeated the process. After half an hour I took the car for a spin and could not believe that it was absolutely quite. I lubricated them on 3/1, knock on wood it is perfect so far (3/12).

 

Alright my problem is SOLVED no more noise, the dealer replaced
