The light came on for the 4th time - today the dealer saw it on and checked it out. Few hours later after a complete check - he said the spiral cable is damaged and it can take anywhere from few days to 2 weeks (from japan) to get the cable..

I wished it was the sensor but nope...

What is the purpose of this spiral cable?

Its so you can turn the steering wheel and still have function of the electronics.
Otherwise known as a CLOCKSPRING... Let a pro put it on or you will be back in the same trouble.

That's good. It's an easy fix.

Those don't go out too often unless you unhook the steering and turn the wheel a few times.

well that's what the service guy said. he's like it only happens when you remove or modify your interior. I told him numerous times that its not modified and im sure you tech can see that.

he also knows the only mods i have are performance. No JDM nissan logo airbag

anyways i questioned him as to the purpose of the spiral cable and he said the airbag is connected to this cable. This cable terminates on a small plate which has a sensor - plate connected to the wheel. Hence when I turn the wheel sometimes the plate gets loose and srs light is on.

Resetting kills the light but again if the plate is loose the light is on.

The part will be in either in a few days or 10 days frmJapan. However, I just had to get my G back because I could not bear to drive the loaner Mitsu Lancer 1.3 anymore.

We dont get Infiniti loaners here

This happened on our LS400 after 200000 miles. 2 weeks wait isnt bad, we had to wait for a month to get the part. Nothing worked on ours though, no airbag, no horn, no cruise. The wire that powers the whole steering column had snapped. Bad design, they should have parallel PWR/GND so you dont lose everything. Especially a safety item like the airbag.
