Arrow Impression: 07 18" Sedan Sport wheels on 1 gen G35 sedan

I just installed a set of 2007 18" sport wheels on my 1 gen sedan. I like the look of it and allow me to share my thoughts.

My first impression was quicker steering input. The steering felt lighter, quicker and looser. I was able to turn the wheels with less effort. The car felt smaller than it is. I was amazed by it. I wasn’t expected it to be that way. I am sure why I felt the way it did. I also had a set 19" coupe rims before and I wasn’t aware of any changes to the steering input. Weird!

Let's review the specs. on the 07 G35 Sedan 18" sport wheels:
Fronts are 18x7.5" 225/50R18 96W, 45mm offset
Rears are 18x8.5", 245/45R18 95W 50mm offset

Let's talk about offset, the 07 rear rim has a 50mm offset. As I was mounting the rear rim on the car, I noticed the rear wheel studs didn't stick out as far as the front did. Is this because of the 50mm offset on the rims? Are wheel spacers and longer studs required? I wonder if it is safe to drive as is.

During a relatively high speed corning test, I felt that the rear 245mm RE050A felt loose. The rear didn't have as much traction as the 235mm RE040 17" tires. I believe this is because of the staggered setup. Generally speaking, a rear biased staggered setup usually introduces more under steering on the car, but not necessary equated to less traction. In fact, I would think it is the opposite. One thing I don't understand is that with the 19" coupe staggered set up, I didn't feel as much understeering as the 18” staggered set up. Does the offset play a factor here?

My final thought is that the 07 G35 Sedan 18” Sport wheels is not a bad choice. However, I will look into wheel spacers with longer studs and possibly a bigger rear sway bar.

I welcome your suggestions and inputs on this topic.

You expressed a concern with the way the studs stick out of the rim. Did you get the different lug nuts that come with the 07 wheels. You must use the 07 lug nuts with these wheels. They are much different than the 1st gen (03-06) sedan lug nuts. The offset has no affect on how far the studs stick out, it is because the wheel is a different design and requires the new style lug nuts.
I don't have a pic of the lug nut handy but here is a pic of the 07 wheel locks which shows how they fit inside the rim and incorporate a washer.

I would invest in the spacers and longer wheel studs +50 is too tucked in bring them out some and that will improve traction and the look. I guess you never realized how important it was to post pixs with your tread since nobody else has added the 07 sport wheels to a 1st gen I think they'll look good on a darker 1st gen or white 1st gen...

i'm not going to say who sent me a PM to take the '07 wheels and throw them on my sedan but +50 w/o a spacer is just too much.
i'm sure i'll get a picture faster than this guy would
