Warranty work, should I get my old parts back?
I recently took my '03 sedan in for some last minute warranty work. I got the driver's seat rail and a new HID bulb. The old HID bulb was fine, but they had replaced the passenger side (blown out) a week before, and the new Infiniti bulbs are a different color than my '03 bulbs, so the dealer was nice and replaced my driver's side too. And while I was there, I noticed a Stillen display that had the swaybar set priced at $325 installed. Obviously I jumped on that. They gave me my old swaybars when I picked the car up, but they didn't give me my old HID bulb (or seat rails, not that I care about those). Do I have to request this, or since it was under warranty, do they get to keep it?
Yep, on a warranty claim, you give up any ownership rights to the replaced parts. You are 'made whole' in a legal sense by the action of the warranty, and if there were any fraud being perpetuated, it would be against Infiniti, not you, so they need not produce the replaced parts for your benefit. But as said above, Infiniti has a different stake. Of course, they don't want to be the victim of fraud, but they may also want to examine parts for quality control, lessons-learned for the next model, or even possible their own warranty claim against their suppliers.
how bout this.
I asked the dealership to keep my broken parts (they remember that I asked but they forgot to tell their techs) and they threw them away. what do you do than?
