G35X won't slip!

So we already know the AWD will handle snow pretty well, right? I just got home from a 40 minute drive in Chicagoland's current "wintry mix" (according to the weather channel). Rain, snow, sleet, freezing rain, frozen exit ramps full of black ice....the AWD barely slipped 6 inches the whole ride home. Of course, I was staying in VERY safe speeds but I was once again thoroughy impressed. I couldn't have felt safer! The few areas where there was no one around and I gave it some gas were still rock solid.

I tried a donut in an empty parking lot this morning. No luck either.

Definitely emphasize SAFE SPEEDS. I made, let's say an aggressive left turn and slid on sheer ice that I didn't see but the car didn't slip as much as I thought and recovered great when it could grip some dry road. IMO whenever you're on ice doesn't much matter what you drive, you're at the mercy of the laws of physics.

well put xman. Don't mess with ice. I am sure the G35X is great in snow, though.

Is this with the stock tires, or have you guys upgraded to better winter tires?

I've got the stock GYs on mine and they work well in the snow. I also own a Subaru with Bridgestones and to me there is no comparison (and there shouldn't be but that's my AWD frame of reference), the G35x grabs a$$ to the road in snow.

I have a 3000gt VR4 with AWD and all I can say is that it is awesome and that goes for any good AWD car.

Yeah, I think that the key factors (besides the AWD) are the low center of gravity, the wheelbase and width, and the tires. That's the difference between driving a sport AWD car and flipping over in an Explorer.

I'm also running the stock tires....Bridgestone Turanza. They seem to work great.

Re: G35X won't slip!

I drove my G35x for the first time in a real nasty mix of snow/freezing rain. Traction, control, sense of control was great. However, one problem I noticed is that the wheel wells, being so close to the 17" tires, can't hold much "clumped" snow/ice mix. There is very little room in those wheel well. At first, I thought my tranny was making some funny sounds, but it turned out it was from the tires rubbing on the clumps... Gotta take time to knock off those "clumps".
