Lowering the front seat?

I'm a tall guy - 6'4" with a long torso. I have the seat height set to the lowest position and then have to compensate even more by setting the seatback to a very reclined angle. It's comfortable, but I only have to raise my head slightly to make contact with the ceiling. This seems to happen with some regularity. In fact, I even have to be careful how I wear my hair - if I spike it, it'll rub the ceiling. It's making me a little claustrophobic. Does anyone know if it's possible to lower the seat more? Are there adjustable brackets under the seat that might permit a lower setting without sacrificing the power seat control? Anyone have any suggestions?

Re: Lowering the front seat?

I know this won't help you at all, but my guess is that you have a sunroof in your G35. I have a similar build (6' 3", long torso) and knew after sitting in a sunroof-equipped G35 that I needed more headroom, so I bought one without sunroof. It makes a huge difference (2" my guess).

Again, this news won't help you until it's time to trade in your car, but maybe it will help other tall folks reading this.

I'm 6'3.5" (gotta be difficult), and I have the sunroof. My seat isn't reclined, but I fit in it perfectly. Of course, I don't spike my hair or anything, so... If I push my head up, yeah, I'll hit the ceiling, but I've learned that in all my cars, I just need to not raise my head

GeoBau-

My guess is that your height is more in your legs, and that you adjust your seat as far BACK as it will go. Am I right?

When you walk next to someone, I bet they have a hard time keeping up with you. A similar situation occurs when we drive our Gs, as nearby cars have a hard time keeping up.

Hehe, good guess. Unfortunately, not totally true My seat's not that far back-- just as far as the passanger seat, actually. I don't quite get it myself. But yes, people have a hard time keeping up, but mainly because I walk really fast (always in a hurry), not necessarily my gate. I think. When I sit down, I'm still towering, so I assumed my height wasn't totally in the legs.

Re: Lowering the front seat?

I'm 5'11" and I too think that the drivers seat doesn't go down far enough. I've gotten comfortable now but if I were taller I'd need to find another solution.

Perhaps you could take it to a trim shop and they could pull the seat and examine the mounting points. I't may be possible to cut an inch or two out of the vertical supports so as to lower everything - and then weld the mounting flanges back to the frame.

Just a thought.

Re: Lowering the front seat?

Yup ... same here and I'm only ~ 6ft. tall. This is especially annoying when I'm wearing a helmet for track events. I wonder why they couldn't just use the coupe seats, which do go down much lower than the sedan variant.

You might try replacing your seat w. the coupe's. I was planning on doing this (also for the added lateral support), but decided I'd rather get a true racing bucket instead.

Re: Lowering the front seat?

That's exactly what I was thinking - maybe it is possible to literally cut away part of the frame and lower it. I'd even pay to have a new mounting bracket made custom, if it would get me a couple inches. What kind of shop would I go to for this - any ideas?
