Painted Engine Cover

A few days ago I decided to paint a section of my engine cover just to see how it would look. I decided to paint it the same color as my red calibers to match. I taped it up first, then lightly scuffed it with 320 grit sand paper, 2 coats of primer, and i did 3 coats of red acrylic paint...Here is what I got...these pics were taken with a camera phone....

Nice idea. I've seen this done other places/forums. IMO, you need to remove the Infiniti emblem and paint under that as well, then reattach with 3M double sided tape. The way it is now with the black showing inside the emblem looks odd.

For anyone else considering doing this mod, use Krylon Fusion paint, which is made specifically for painting plastic. It bonds better than regular spray paint.

It gets hot, but we aren't talking about headers here. The engine cover may get up to a few hundred degrees, but nothing that would need 1500 degree HT paint.

Thats true....I went with acylic becuase the guy down at napa told me you could use it, but i bet the paint specially made for plastic would be better...If anyone else was to do this i would use the paint specially made for plastic, like GixxerSteve said.
