So I busted up my front end real bad hitting a construction cone on the freeway. Anyway do you guys think cal trans would do anything since it was their cone?? And what do u think my chances that my insurance company will let me get a nismo front end out of it??

In my experiences on previous cars, I went to an expensive body shop for a quote. Then they would give me a ridiculous high amount to fix it on an official document. Then I would have to meet up with the insurance inspector to see the damages, show him the quote I got, send it in to the insurance company and they would send me back a check in the amount of that quote. Then I would use that money to buy an aftermarket product that looks better than the oem.

I would do what the last post stated. Get a check for the amount and then get the Nismo kit. If you have Progressive or anyother companies that do not like to cut checks, find out what shop will be doing the work and try to work out a deal with them.

It really sucks and is driving everyone nutz, any suggestions besides disconnecting the battery. Also I'm getting it fixed at the dealership which is cool i guess. Anything I should look out for??

OEM alarm or other?

As for the body kit, they will not buy you the Aero one since you didn't have it before but between the non-aero and paint you will have a good part of it in credit. Remember the aero comes painted.

Well I think I may have an answer for you as to what your insurance company will and will not pay for since I have worked in claims for almost 5 years. Yeah, I know...dont rub it in!

Anyway, your insurance company owes you to put you in preloss condition. They aren't just going to pay any outrages estimate from a body shop. They'll pay the cost of an OEM part as long as there are no used or aftermarket parts available. Keep your fingers crossed. If you dont believe me, check your policy and you'll realize you signed and agreed to have used or a/m parts put on your car if you're ever in an accident. I doubt there are any used/am parts for a g35 so you should be fine. If the OEM front end cost less than the a/m hood you want, you will be responsible for the difference if you want the a/m front end. If the a/m is less than the OEM, you get a check for the OEM and keep the difference.

Hope this helps.

P.S- I see several insurance related questions posted all the time. Feel free to pm me if you have any questions or just post and I'll be happy to help.

Well, I got into a similar situation except my damage was a lot more lol. The insurance adjuster approved my replacement of the aero (nismo) bumper after the bodyshop put in a claim for me. Since it was a factory part, they gave me around $1160 credit for it while deducting the oe bumper and paint from the total. (Yes! they actually knew it comes pre-painted!). Anyway, I was able to pick up a front and rear from riverside for $1210 so I got a rear nismo lip for $50 more! My bodyshop even installed the rear for free. I definitely got the better end of the stick and depending on adjuster they will either approve or deny your request for the aero. Good luck

Yeah if the difference isn't too much more, and if the adjuster isnt a "go by the book" type, he/she may approve to put a a/m part. If the a/m part is $100+ more than OEM, I would be surprised if any insurance company approved that.

the thing is, the aero (nismo) bumper is not an aftermarket part. It is a factory installed option and a nissan genuine part. This is where you kinda go into the gray area.

thanks guys for the input. Yeah I was thinking the same thing since the aero bumper is actually a factory part and not aftermarket in the eyes of the insurance adjuster. Someone told me to schmooze the repair place and it might happen. Wish me luck because i want that aero bumper real bad. BTW it's a factory alarm that is going nutz. It only doesn't go off if the trunk is open. WTF??!?!?!

Cal Trans won't do anything. If you had a police report made you will be found at fault for driving too fast for conditions. It's a Vehicle Code catch all.

22350. No person shall drive a vehicle upon a highway at a speed greater than is reasonable or prudent having due regard for weather, visibility, the traffic on, and the surface and width of, the highway, and in no event at a speed which endangers the safety of persons or property.

Basically, if you hit something in the roadway, you were driving too fast.
