Radiator fubared

The dealer who sold me the car had replaced the engine driven radiator fan, but the fan support bearing was bad. He was supposed to replace that too.

So I'm driving along yesterday not too far from home, and the fan was making its usual buzzy noise because the bearing was going, when all of a sudden it stopped and got real quiet...

To myself - "that can't be good. Let me head for home"

Going along, the belt starts to squeal. Can't stop because of roadworks, so I continue, thinking "oh dear..."

A few minutes and the squeal stops.

Few minutes more, about 2 minutes from home normally but in slow moving traffic, the flapping noise starts....

1 minute from home, flapping noise stops - as does the power steering and alternator. All dash lights on, but the engine still running. Still can't stop...

Finally turn into my driveway, stop, all the coolant erupts onto the floor.

Open the hood, the fan is stuck in the radiator.

I had given up on the dealer and ordered my own fan bearing, and called yesterday to see if it had arrived. It comes in Tuesday.

Took the core to a shop today and they can temporarily fix it to get me back on the road, but I need a new one. Thinking of getting one of these:

Koyo aluminum radiator. Had one in my last Skyline and it was great.

It sucks being all the way out here in Barbados sometimes - getting anything is a major production. Then again, I can always go to the beach....

all this should be under warranty. let a dealer solve the problem on their own dime., assuming there is a dealer down there...
