Just installed stillen drilled / slotted rotors and hawk pads, they are braking great but when I am driving next to barrier i hear a slight noise kind of like when we put cards in our bike spokes.... is this inhearent to these rotors? or did i install wrong ?

 

did you have them ground before installing? Meaning did you take them to a brake shop and have them grind the surface of the new rotors so that they are a true flat surface. Im thinking that every time the rotor turns a hich spot rubs on the brake pad. It should go away after a while, but I would have it fixed right away. Who wants there G to sound like a bike with the cards in the spokes? LOL

Also did you install the rotors so the vents on the edge will force the brake dust out.

 

thanks for reply, I did not know i had to take to have them turned ? also did not see anything on installing them with slots facing a certain way ? I followed the directions from a post on here.

 

When you look between the two surfaces of the rotors you will see those slots. They have to be facing so the rotors will push the air outward not inward.

Also double check that your wheels are not rubbing the calipers in any way.

 

my rear stock driverside rear does that, had it fixed at the dealer twice, heatshield I think they said was loose. One more time and I will call out the lemon law

It's most likely the dust shield on the backside of the rotor (behind it). I recommend that they be removed when going aftermarket. I removed mine after I started hearing some noise.

You don't need to have the rotors grinded but you do need to do a break in cycle to bed the brake pads onto the new rotors.

some times good pads make noise. ya ever hear a race cars brakes? im putting hawk hps on when i get my rotors in the mail any day now.

 

can I remove the shields from the OEMs and not have rotor complications?

 

It's actually a dust shield (edited my post), so yes, you can remove them but if they aren't making any noise/complications I would just leave them alone.

The fronts are the only ones you would need to remove. The rears are a b1tch to get off. I winded up just cutting them down when putting on my BBK.

 

I remember the slots between rotors... so is there a right and left to the rotors? how could they be on wrong ?

 

the "slots" on the rotor need to be facing forward.
