Headlight Vandalism

My g was parked in a parking garage last night and when I got back to my car someone had taken a black permanant marker and scribbled all over my one headlight. Who thought this was a good idea I have no idea, anyways does any one have any recomendations on what the best thing to use to try and get it off is, i dont want to scratch up the headlight trying to get it off.

i know that this may sound a BIT crazy, and i have never tried it but i heard that if you use "off" (the bug repellant) it will take off permanant marker.

i really dont know how true it is, but i dont think it would hurt to try..

you may want to try the products that remove headlight haze.. they contain micro abrasives, not meant to leave "scratches" but simply to remove the haze that develops on headlights over time..
the abrasives should remove the marker
good luck!

well just to be on the safe side just spray some on a piece of cloth and see if it works on a tiny part before you use it on the entire light..

like i said i heard it works but dont know how true it is.

Nice........

I keep a can of carb cleaner in my garage just for things like this. Spray a
small amount of a rag and try a very small area to see what reaction you're
getting then wipe clean with glass cleaner. You could also use other items
like paint thinner or rubbing alcohol but you must be careful doing a small
area to begin.

DO NOT USE BUG REPELLENT! It will MELT the plastic!

Any plastic polish will work. It may take a lot of "elbow grease" but it will come off.

some jack@$$ sprayed my whole car on campus, it was windy and alittle rainy the night before so as i walked towards my car I thought perhaps some squiggly branches blew on my car or rubber modling fell off?

as i got closer it was spray paint, i used wd-40 to take it off and then washed with water, took everything right off including headlights

but you want to wash it down with some water and soap right afterwards or it might discolor or damage the paint.

I suggest you use 3M Plastic Cleaner or Meguiars Plastx to see if that works first. You will need to rub it in good (as suggested ealier) with some muscle behind it.

If that doesnt work, wetsand (1500 and 2000) then some 3M Plastic Polish and buff it out (wheel buffer on the end of a drill).

I'd be hesitant to use anything else not made for this.

Good luck and let us know how it turns out.

^^^^Yeah, Plastx makes sense and if that doesn't work, maybe try Turtle Wax Bug & Remover (black & green spray bottle)
