just wondering if that's what is going on. Pretty sure the clicking noise was when I stepped on the gas pretty hard and the saw the slip light flashing on and off.
thanks

I've had my VDC/slip engage quite a few times and never heard clicking... where was the sound coming from?

This has happened to me when driving in the snow & pushing the car hard....I think the sound is the brakes applying where needed to reduce/prevent slippage.

Hey , I have the exact same problem. Actually hearing that yours does this makes me think our cars are fine. Is it like a stripping/light grinding noise that lasts only as long as the slip light is on??Originally Posted by 68_GT

its normal, first time i drove the car in snow i didn't hear it, then i started hearing it and i still do its my second winter so its normal, wish it didn't make any noise, but its a lot better than that annoying ABS noise when u brake and slide

Our cars have noisy TCS and ABS systems.
I would describe the TCS noise (occurs when slip light comes on) as sort of a slow release of compressed air combined with a bit of a grinding noise and an occasional softer click.
ABS sounds a bit more like the playing cards we put in bicycle wheel spokes as kids to me. ABS is noisier than TCS.
I find both systems to be quite effective albeit strange sounding.

never really understood why it makes the noises it does but its normal. Its the same sound as the ABS self test but more drawn out depending on how long VDC is working to correct the car.

Awesome replies everybody- and yes the noises are very tolerable given the safety net they provide. Last winter we were coming down a mountain pass in the QX and started to push through a corner real bad due to too much speed- the VDC saved me from blasting the middle concrete barrier. I about s*** but I don't think my wife realizes how close it was.......thank GOD!!!!!!

Could be intentional, so we know it's working and to tell us to "ease up"? Slip light I think only comes on when the rear wheels are slipping, this this might be an audible warning.Originally Posted by RADIOGUY21

mine makes the same sound...
sounds kinda like a mechanical whirring clicking sound. Seems perfectly to me.

(Instead of starting a new thread, here's a bump of an old one. )
Last night was my 1st time driving my 2006 X sedan in bad snowy conditions. I heard a grinding sound a few times when the Slip light came on. I've had VDC engage before but have never heard any noises until last night. It appears to be normal but I wanted to make sure I haven't missed any other threads where people realized it wasn't normal? I don't think it was the ABS, definately sounded like a mechanical grinding.
