Thumbs down damn it gonna need a new windshield

I don't have a clue what hit mine but when I got in my car at lunch it had a crack going half way across it. When I stopped to look there is a little chip below the wiper that started it. By looking at the chip it isn't even the type I would have rushed right out and had repaired to prevent it from cracking.

I doubt my windshield is OE Infiniti glass this cracked way too easy. This sucks.

Anyone know of a place to get a good deal on OE glass new / used ? I know my insurance company will only want aftermarket glass installed and my deductible is $200.

suggestions ?

Oftentimes insurance policies have a glass clause with a $0 deductible. I had four major chips filled on my Jeep (pre-G35) for free without any hassle from the insurance company or an increase in rates, etc. Try Mister Carwash, I know they have them down here in Sugar Land. That's where I went and they took care of everything for me in like 30 minutes. As for replacing the whole windshield, I imagine that may still fall under the glass clause of your policy but may cost you a little more than free. Best of luck!

I have USAA and my glass is covered under my comprehensive insurance but my deductible is $200 and my insurance will only want to pay for an aftermarkert glass anyway which installed I imagine would only cost around $200 installed. They have paid for the rock chips on my other vehicles though. I just didn't see this damn chip becasue it was under where the wiper rests.

Aftermarket glass isn't so bad if done right. Find a reputable place. We had a crack on my wife's RX300 and then had an aftermarket windshield installed--been trouble-free for 4 years now. OE glass can crack just like aftermarket....My friend has an 05 Altima, and had his windshield crack due to weather in less than a year.... if you go to the dealer, they're just going to outsource your glass replacement anyway. They did that with my rear windshield....under warranty though.

just had Safelite do mine, they had a "turkey time deal" that dropped the price down to $200 from $250. My deductible is $500, so no point in making the claim.

I just replaced mine for $280 installed not OEM. It happened while going on vacation and when coming back. It was a small crack on the bottom middle. I also got a big chip when coming back too Lucky it happened before I replaced it.

Had mine replaced.... you can and should insist that it be OEM and not after-market. The argument I had was that the windshield is a key part of my car's safety equipment and as such an after-market will not suffice. Their argument is that after-markets are up to OEM standards. Insist on seeing the specs (they won't be able to produce them). You'll need to push and be aggressive and they'll buckle. Also, insist that time is critical b/c you don't want to be driving in a car with compromised safety features. Insist that safety equipment should not be aftermarket-- ever. An aftermarket door handle, headlight or so on is acceptable. It's all about assertiveness here! Good Luck!

Anytime I ever had aftermarket glass I always noticed it was more prone to being chipped and doing stupid **** like this. The chip I have now NEVER should have cracked. It's a tiny nick in the glass. I also recall aftermarket glass being more prone to becomming dull from sand and crap from the road. I could see thousands of tiny spots all over the windshield from everything that ever hit the windshield. I have never seen factory glass suck like that. The windshied in my car does not say Infiniti on it anywhere. Something like tampilite ??

going to check some junk yards as soon as I can for some factory glass. I just can have cracks in my windshield on any car I own.

I just nailed a rock the other day. It left a good-sized chip right in my field of view. I even saw the bugger bouncing down the highway and tried to avoid it

Anyway, i'd hate to replace an OEM windshield if i don't have to since the chip is only a few MM and V shaped.

Luckily MA is $0 deductable on glass with no premium hike....but i'll have to insist on OEM and use the arguement Cimabeu stated as I want original stuff on my car.

Holly old thread batman!

Your warranty does not cover glass unless it is a defect. Normal "wear" items like tires, clutch, belts, brakes, etc are not covered nor are "tear" items like glass, dents, scratches, etc.

Infiniti glass will say Nissan and have black circles/dots on the outer edges and VIN etching. Aftermarket will not say Nissan and it will have black squares, not circles/dots.
