Engine Shutdown while Driving

I was driving my 2003 G35 6MT sedan at 65 mph down the expressway when all of a sudden, the engine stopped. There is a recall to replace an engine sensor, which, when it fails, causes the engine to stop, but my VIN is outside the range of those recalled. The dealer said there was nothing he could do. The onboard computer showed nothing wrong. Has anyone else had this problem with the same model whose VIN is outside the range of those affected by the recall? This is a very dangerous situation!

Re: Engine Shutdown while Driving

There is a TSB regarding engine shutting off due to fuel line not being secured properly at the factory, ask the dealer about this. Also some people with Injen CAI's report stalling issues with their 6MT's at highway speeds (if this applies to you). Hope this helps some what...

Re: Engine Shutdown while Driving

My car is outside the range of VINs for the improperly attached fuel line.

What is an Injen CAI?

Gee,

I wish it's not going to happen to me. That's not good. I wonder if any of us received the sensor recall notice yet?

BTW, how long do you have to wait before restarting your car?

Thanks

Re: Engine Shutdown while Driving

It only happened once, so far. I was cruising at 65 mph in 6th in clear weather, and when I stepped on the gas to pass a car, the engine died. Those are all the specifics I have. There weren't any unusual circumstances. I restarted the engine as soon as I coasted to the shoulder. Is it possible to pop the clutch at 65 mph to restart it next time?

Absolutly, push in the clutch pedal and shift into 4th or 5th
gear. With the ignition in the on position, pop the clutch
and your off and running. I used to make silent getaways
with my 1963 beatle by pushing it out of the garage and
down the street to a small hill, coast down the hill and pop
the clutch in 2nd or 3rd and the parents didn't hear the beatle
start. Ha Ha Ha.....The good old days!

Re: Engine Shutdown while Driving

There was a similar post in the past. Somebody had a new G and this was happening. If I recall correctly, after a week of trying to fix the car, they gave the person a new one because they couldn't figure it out.

If it's a G it's 4 me!

Re: Engine Shutdown while Driving

If it only happened once, probably a fluke, I wouldn't worry about it. In cold mornings, my G had trouble starting 3 times, but it never happened again. With all the technical stuff we have in our vehicles, who knows....

Re: Engine Shutdown while Driving

I had totally forgotten, but now that I read this isn't there a recall on this very issue?

I remember reading about it last Fall but last time I brought my car in they just did an oil change and didn't mention anything about a recall.
