new to the forum

im looking to buy a g35x next weekend. I know i really want the awd g35x but then i think the g35 sport sedan would be fine. Whats the main difference besides the awd? I want the speed and all i really want to do is exhuast, lip kit, air intake, rims, and a one inch drop. and of coarse a sound system. anybody have any ideas and can maybe help me to direct me to a good choice in car and parts. My reason for an awd is i do head up to tahoe and reno for the snow to snowboard. Your opinions would be appreciated.

Welcome. The positives to having AWD is that you will have more grip on those trips in the snow. The negatives will be a slight loss in fuel economy (1mpg or less) due to drivetrain loss, some aftermarket exhausts won't fit on the X, and you might have an issue running staggered wheels if you plan on doing that down the road. Plenty of people have the X and love it. I'd say if you can find one, get it.

No way. Rip off! Look around, you can find one cheaper.

Hello and welcome.

If you have questions on mods please see the FAQ sticky at the top of the 03-06 sedan section.

If you are in an area with a lot of snow the AWD is a good choice. The only major cons in my opinion is that you can't get a 6MT with it and staggered wheels are not good for the AWD. As for exhaust, I belive the HKS rear section still fits (AWD guys confirm or deny).

way back when i was trying to decide between the two, (if i remember correctly), the g35x was a tad bit slower on the 0-60 than the sport g35. someone can correct me if i'm wrong.

i decided on the rwd b/c i live in southern ca and wanted to get staggered wheels. good luck w/ your choice!

Why would staggered wheels be a problem with AWD? As long as the overall tire diameter is the same, the electronics will never know. Increase the width? Reduce the profile to match. What's the problem?

another new one to the list

I recently joined the list after purchasing a used 2006 G35 coupe to replace my Saturn Sky Redline. Was tired of the cramped space and the cheezy saturn quality. Lots of rattles at 9000 miles! Great looking car, fast and fun but was too scared to keep it. I might also mention that it has no room. Tiny useless trunk. Cramped interior. I am totally enjoying the G35, its roomy, luxurious, comfortable, fast, quiet, and of course cool looking. I will probably miss the convertible top in the spring but not the headaches of the Sky. I was a member of a Sky listserv. Great group of people. Lots of get togethers and rides here in Ohio. Am hoping for a similar experience on this list too.

Yes the stock sport rim are 18x7.5 all around I believe. Just make sure you are running the same size tire too.
