Cobb AccessPort for Early Type I sedans (please don't move this!)

I just got an email from Trey at Cobb Tuning and he's confident that our early type 1 sedans (early 03 doggy door w/ gray ecu connectors) are going to be supported by their reflash hardware/software. I emailed my vin for his research.

If you don't know, early sedans have almost no ecu modfication ability unless you send your ecu to Technosquare or hack your own wiring harness for eManage/UTEC etc...... Uprev has already stated our early versions are NOT supported by their stuff.

If this works out, we will finally have our own reflash option w/o taking the ecu out. And we will have the ability to change our own stuff (either by an Cobb dealer or maybe an hardware interface)

Sounds great, just like it did in September of '06 when they were first promising it. I recently got an pm from Trey stating they were going to be sending units out for Beta testing. The only problem with that is it was supposed to be released during the first quarter of '07 and it still hasn't been released now the first quarter of '08. It sounds great, but the wait has been long. I hope it turns out to be as good as they say it should be. If it is it would be the best thing yet for first gen G35's to tweak the ECU. If this interests people on the board they should go to Cobb's web site and see the unit for the WRX and EVO, it looks like a great piece of hardware.

Last I heard they were looking at around $650. It should cost similar to the one for the STi/EVO.

Here is a link to the one for the Sti, it is $695.00. From what I understand pre made ECU maps are free to download with the purchase of the hardware.

how much power and what other benefits could the early G's see with this ? For example myself who only has a few minor bolt on's. I'd love to get firmer shifts out of it.

Depends on the tune. I would guess around teh same as what TS is getting from the off the shelf reflashes.

Firmer shifts are going to be a tranny TCM mod. I think they are looking into it but it's not on the table. TS said they won't touch TCM modifications

You 03.5+ guys can all use UpRev, Cobb (soon), eManage, UTEC, Motec etc, etc etc... you have tons of choices.

My 03 is kind of an odd ball because it was built during the last month before the 03.5s started production. According to information posted by DaveO, my 03 is a Type II. When you say "gray connectors" on the ECU, is it the male harness connector or the female connector in the ECU. This weekend, I'm going to confirm which one my car has.

LOL at the title. This is one I would leave in here!

From all the pics, I've seen, the later more compatible ecu connectors are black. It's the harness connector that plugs into the ecu. Mine is light gray.
On the other hand, Trey was more interested in the VIN number than the ecu connector type/color. He's already reviewed mine and said it "should" work according to his documents. He even acknowledges that my ecu is different but again should work. So he seems to be aware of the differernces and at the same time has enough confidence in it to send me one for beta testing.
