Picking up my 6MT tonight!

Hello,
After agonizing over a month, I've finally decided on the G35 over the TL. I'll be picking up a diamond graphite 6MT tonight. Is there like a checklist of things I should look out for?

Re: Picking up my 6MT tonight!

check the shifter thoroughly. run it real quick and hard thru the gears to see if it grinds at all. (in the parking lot with the clutch pedal in)

check the driver's seat for "rocking"

other than that, not much, good car, excellent color (my second choice for the sedan)

Re: Picking up my 6MT tonight!

Picking up the car last night was one of the most pleasant and efficient dealer experience I've ever had. The Infiniti dealership really tried hard to make sure that I was satisfied with the service. The car prep was impeccable. Oh by the way, the car was beyond my expectations. Having driven Honda front wheelers all my life, I was a bit hesitant about taking the RWD leap. Now I'm wondering why I hadn't done this sooner. The balance and handling is amazing. I love hearing the engine roar, which was not available in the TL. Also, the clutch engagement is "friendlier" than the TL as well, especially going from 1st to 2nd gear. I can't say enough good things about the car. So far, no problems.

Congrat Oscar!

Interesting comment on the clutch bit. I have the very 1st batch of the '04 6mt (delievered in late August) and didn't like the clutch feel and 1-2 shift then. I have since grown accustomed to the clutch but 1-2 is still as nasty as it was. To my best recollection, I have tranny revision 3. On the other hand, I test drove my buddy's brand new 6mt Z just a few weeks ago and was amazed by the difference :O Clutch was much lighter and linear ... engagement point has certainly changed as well. 1-2 shift was flawless. In fact, rowing the shifter thorugh the gates was quite inviting and silky smooth compare to mine. I believe his tranny is revision 5 ... probably the same one you have.

Enjoy your new ride

Re: Picking up my 6MT tonight!

you have to watch out for the accelerator as it's quite addictive. You don't want to end up unintentionally donating money to the county traffic court.

And even if it doesn't feel like your doing 90MPH, you really are and the Highway patrol Radar gun can prove it.

Yes, I still do. I'm still trying to find an optimal seat position. MY only complaint so far is that it's relatively hard to shift from 5th to 6th. The angle seeems a bit awkward. Or maybe it's because this is my first 6speed.

Re: Picking up my 6MT tonight!

It can be make easier if you make a small change while doing the 5-6 shift.
Try grasping the shift **** with your open-palm facing towards the passenger side. Pull back with a slight push (again towards the passenger) swiftly and 5-6 should happen before you know it. Don't be afraid to move it, as there is no risk of accidentally engaging Reverse, unless you've somehow pushed down on the ****, which take quite a bit of effort.
