free ghetto air box/intake tube mod

well today i just did a "ghetto" air box/intake tube mod.what i did was first i took off the bottom piece of the airbox,i beleive credit goes to klg35 for this.i didnt stop there though.i was thinking of buying a 350z tube, but i looked at the stock g tube to see what could be done with it.i then removed the stock tube and carefully twisted off the long bottom piece.i then cut a perfectly round piece of thin plastic and epoxied it over the hole.i then epoxied the long bottom part back on.this made it look stock.i should have taken pics, but was in a rush to see how it would work.i now have a nice growl when i punch it.b.t.w,i originaly just did the airbox mod.then i decided to modify the tube.it really growls with the tube mod.you guys should try it,especially since it costs nothing.

Re: free ghetto air box/intake tube mod

props for doing the stock tube mod, sounds like(pun intended) a z tube now.....you mentioned that you did the stock airbox mod, i wasn't sure if you removed that power duct piece or not, if you didn't, do it!!!! then watch that growl come to life at about 4k+ and it'll turn heads, no joke.........

it's that piece attached to the bottom from under the airbox, you can't see it from the top, you might want to take out the whole airbox to remove it.......what will this mod do? basically making it easier for the engine to injest air more quickly...read, quicker throttle response.

Re: free ghetto air box/intake tube mod

I did the air box mod a couple of weeeks ago. Then I made my own intake tube. Then I read your mod and felt that it was a much better setup. So what I did was go to the auto store and got the epoxy but i saw these tire patches. They looked to be the same size as the two holes that are in our intake. It cost 2 bucks so I said what the hell. Brought it home took out the intake tube and they fit perfectly over the holes. I first put one on the inside first with rubber cement to hold it in place. Then from the outside of the hole I poured the epoxy so it would seal it up nice. Then I put another one on the outside of the hole just to make sure that no air would get through. After that I put the smaller patch on the little hole that connects to that box thing on the top. What i found was that it was not as loud as my homemade tube but definitly pulled alot better.
