I just went to fill up today.. I was under a 1/4 tank, and yet I only filled 14.3 gallons.. what's up with that?

The gas tank is very close to 20 gallons. I've put in just shy of that myself.
Our gas gauges are not very accurate and tend to read high.

i tried holding the handle kinda upside'ish and it filled up more...something to do with pressure....hope that helps you.

OK i plan on racing at the ATCO meet in south jersey and would like to know for certain that this thing is 20 gallons. I bellieve the specs say 18 right?

SixFive, The spec calls for 20 US gallons, or 76 liters.
Some have had difficulty in filling the tank to the top tho, along with the inaccurate gauge issue.

I have a very unusual accuracy problem with my G... the tan will fill up just shy of a full tank,,, bout 1/8th of a tank away,,, annoying to not know exactly how much gas is in ur tank...

 

I never have gotten more than 18.2 into it and that is 50 miles after the light came on.

19.5 gallons... and every time I turned left, the G sputtered... forgot to stop at the gas station one morning.

So if I can know its full - only way is to get it gurgling up to the top - dangerous but if your careful you shoul be able to tell right? Then I will assume 19.5 gallons. I will calibrate by filling up when the needle hits E and subtract the metered gallons in from 19.5 to see how much room i have to play with before I need to get gas. I guess going to the track at E if it has about 3-4 gallons in there is perfect with gas station 3 miles away.

IF i can get the pulley in, have 4 gallons of gas - leave my GF on the lawn take out the jack and trunk mat - whatduya think i can try to run in this 5AT of mine? I will shift with auto in D and reset ecu 3 days prior to race and do some WOT runs before I get there and park. Sorry im hijacking but I want to run a 14.0 and tie a stock z or 6MT G sedan badly and this could be a huge part of a sucessful time I believe.

Anyone else ever feel the need to justify mods?

Shold I lite up the all seasons first ?lol

20 gallons. Their is a two gallon reserve once the needle is burried and can't move any more. 18 gallons to the needle can't move any more, then you get about two more. They do that on purpose so you don't run out of gas.

My Fuel gauge is also screwed up. I fill up the tank and it does not show a full tank colse but not all the way up????

Measure from the instance the low fuel light comes on. When this happens, there's still close to 4 gallons (or a little more) left.

chinee is right, I believe the owner manual indicates that there is about 4 gallons left after the first warning light comes on.

so what your basically saying is the fuel gauge is actually tuned for an 18 gallon tank? If that's the case.. that makes me feel ALOT better about my gas mileage (about 14.6 so far with 500 miles) than if it was figured on 20 (which was 12 and change.. not so good)

I suppose by making the driver think they're out of gas with 2 gallons to spare, they get quite a few less calls from roadside assistance!

Any chance the 2 gallons is "not useable"? In other words, it's not able to be pumped by the fuel pump? In general aviation airplanes, there is always a total fuel capacity and a useable fuel capacity. In my 5 gallon Piper tank, only 48 is useable. Your engine will quit with 2 gallons left. Second most common reason small planes go down...right after weather.
