Service Engine Soon....tps....evap....????
Hi, I just bought a 2004 G35 Sedan 6MT a couple weeks ago with the SES light on. I went down to AutoZone and got the codes printed out. There are two codes, P0455 and P2135 (listed below). I would like to fix them on my own without bringing it to the dealer. I'm sure this repair is not going to be cheap. I am fully capable of doing this in my garage and experienced with cars. But, just thought I would ask you guys if I should look a anything in particular since I am new to this car. Maybe you guys have run into the same problem...
P0455
EVAP large leak detected
The PCM has determined that a large leak exists in the evaporative emission control system.
Probable Causes
1. Defective, loose or missing fuel cap
2. EVAP canister broke, hose cracked or not connected
3. Purge or vent solenoid defective
4. Vacuum leak at engine
P2135
TP sensor circuit range/performance problem.
TP 1 & 2 signals do not agree.
Problable Causes
1. Open or short circuit condition
2. Poor electrical connection
3. Failed TP sensor
Thanks,
Aaron

I can only address the first error code. I ran into a similar code a year ago, it was a P0456 (very small leak in the EVAP control system). Turned out that I had a loose gas cap, so I tightened it pretty good after 4-5 clicks and after 50 or so ignition starts, the SES light went away. It's possible that you may also have a loose gas cap, but in addition I would check the vacuum hoses around the engine and make sure they're all snug in there and that none of them are cracked.

Thanks for the reply! I was going to do that when I get some free time (I'm pretty busy with school and work right now). I will tighten the gas cap more than usual.
Where is the EVAP canistor located?

I had the P2135 code which points to the TPS (throttle position sensor) and with further diagnosis it turned out to be the throttle PEDAL position sensor, drive by wire sensor/lever. It not fixed by me, but this is what the receipt said. If it is the TPS I have heard that you have to replace the entire throttle body, but don't hold me to that. If you can find a service manual and figure out how to check the throttle pedal position sensor it might save you some money. Part # for the complete pedal position sensor ("complete lever assembly") is 18002-am81d - $147.98. After the repair I had much better throttle response, no lag.

11/03, is that a 2004 or 2004.5?

(I never thought of it, but maybe I have the first 04.5
