Hey there everyone! I am planning on painting my grill this weekend black but am unsure as to what would look better...flat black or gloss (ive got an OB sedan)? I know this is just an opinion question but I was wondering if anyone had any pics for a comparison. Also (I dont know if this will make a difference or not) I was going the way of the three step process of primer, paint and then clearcoat. Anyone with any opinions or sugestions on this matter feel free to chime in. Thanks!

Well if you car is OB then I would go gloss to better match the car. It might look a little funky with a FB grill.

I've had both. Flat black looks better. For my first try, scuffed the chrome, I used regular gloss black paint and then used clear. It looked fine, but chipped easily. After a couple years and touch ups, I scuffed up the paint, used a primer made for adhering to plastic and then shot of the grill with flat black high temp engine paint. It's held up much better and only has a couple of chips after 6 months.

flat black ftw....I think it would add a nice contrast instead of flowing all together on OB

gloss black... or flat/matt with coat of good clear... but not flat black by itself... just my opinon
Thanks guys for all the input. I think that I am going to go with the gloss black for now...if I dont like it I can always repaint it right?
Ill be posting up pics as the progress comes along. Thanks again for the input and to all those DIY's that everyone else has put out there to make things easier for people like me

i've had both, if ur car is OB than it looks retarded with flat black...ttrank is right it looks like primer or like a beater going down the street that hasn;t finished their paint job. By the way get ready to paint it often. I've had to paint mine twice at a professional painter cause rocks it that thing often and jack it up. Kinda sucks by **** happens... it looks ten times better and should have been like that from the beginning. now u see camry's and other cars doing it
and tim with all the mods you have done why have u never painted the grill. It's such a game changer looking at the car front on. it's so funny how great it looks on the g and you've never done it. i just think it's funny with all the mods you have.

Here's my DIY flat black grille. I think it looks real good in all directions. My DIY thread (https://g35driver.com/forums/showthread.php?t=189792).

That's what my grill looks like on my black G. It looks perfect because it offers just a little contrast instead of the whole front end being gloss black. I didn't like all that gloss.Originally Posted by lexusk8
