Did I really want the Sport Package??
Re: Did I really want the Sport Package??
I've driven the G35 with both the sports suspension and standard suspension. True you can tell a difference between the two, but the difference is NOT that huge. Even the standard suspension is stiff compared to other cars in this class.
So for the guy who wished he had gone with the std. suspension, I seriously doubt you would of been much happier with that setup either. You probably should of gone with something like a Lexus GS300. The G35 is a true sports sedan and makes no comprimises (in my opinion anyways). It's one of the reason I bought it over other cars in this class.

There are spray on systems out there that will damnpen road noise. I got it myself and it doesn't cost very much. It works pretty well in comparison, I also got the underbody rust protection, live in Canada, but you don't have to get that.

Re: Did I really want the Sport Package??
I wouldn't say I'm a hard-core sports guy. I actually test drove the non-sport G35, as my dealership was only letting test drives occur with one demo model, and wouldn't let me drive the sport suspension before buying. I was somewhat concerned that it might be rough, but I think it's only just enough stiffer to be noticeable, and no more.
I've been driving Accords for a decade, and felt it was time for a drastic change (mainly because I could finally afford it). So I went all-out on a sports/luxury sedan. If I were a hard-core sports guy, I probably wouldn't have gotten the premium package and nav system, as they'd "just weigh down the car." I did, btw, test drive a Cadillac, Volvo, Acura, Audi, and a BMW before picking the G35. I only felt "at one" with the G35 and 330i when test driving. The Volvo was my 3rd choice.
I realize that the non-sport versions of all these cars are probably more capable than I am at this point. I do intend to begin to change that this year, I can hear the call of Solo2 in my head. My plan is to become good enough to extract the full potential of the factory-equipped G35 before I even think about spending a penny on modifying it beyond tire selection.

Hi,
I'm with you, I love the feel of the road and the only way to get a 6-speed sedan is with the sports suspension. I find the ride good enough for me. If you want to try a real bad ride try a long bed Ford F-150, now thats a bad ride! I put seven thousand miles and I will never drive a F-150 on a long trip again.

JJSg35 - no problem. You'd have to come across really pointed to get me riled up. Something like, "You're a retarded idiot if you think the base suspension can't corner well!" might do the trick.
Besides, I like the 17" 5-spoke wheels that come with the sport package and haven't seen anything aftermarket that I like better. <sarcasm>Plus, it was a pre-requisite for the Aero Package.. and I absolutely must have zero-rear-lift for the 45mph commute to work every day! </sarcasm>

Just kidding of course!
Having driven the sport and non-sport, I didn't actually notice that much difference in handling. The ride was a little harsher in the sport, and I didn't like the 'titanium' trim. I agree though, the zero rear lift would have been nice, but only in my mind.

Re: Did I really want the Sport Package??
The Sports package upgrades you to summer performance tires, unless you also get teh Winter package, in which case you wind up with the Bridgestones. None of the 3 OEM tire choices are great in snow, I hear. Your best bet there is to get a set of 16" steel wheels with some snow tires to ride out the winter. Or move to a warmer state. "I'm not a big fan of chrome. I like the brushed metal look."
Actually, my wheels have a bright silver painted centers. Only the outer part of the rim is chrome (actually not chrome - stainless steel, but does look chrome).
