Black Boxes in Cars

I’ve heard rumors that all GM vehicles have black boxes. The vehicle speed is recorded and I’m not sure what else. From the link below this rumor looks valid. Anyone know if black boxes are in all new cars?

Re: Black Boxes in Cars

I don't know about black boxes, but most cars today, including the G, do utilize computer diagnositcs. When the car is plugged into the computer at the dealer service dept., a recorded history of various functions, error codes, malfunctions, problems, etc, are read out. So a lot can be observed about how the car has been operated and/or is operating.
