Roof racks for Sedans

I'd like to get a roof rack for my sedan since I have no other ways to move my bikes. I'd like to stay away from the ones that mount to the truck with a series of belts/clamps and I don't have a trailer hitch for the racks that mount to one of those.

I was looking for a Thule or a Yakima as I had pretty good luck with them in the past.

I haven't been able to find something specific to the G35 and I've never seen one mounted to a G35 either.

Does anyone have one that they use? How easy is it to install/remove? Where did you get it at? And how much did it cost?

Never seen roof racks mounted on G's anywhere. It would take away from the lines of the car.

Yeah, I knew I was gonna get that. That's why I asked if there was one that was easy to install and remove.

I use a Thule rack on my '06 G35x. I mountain bike and needed a way to transport my bikes. The Thule Sidearm bike carrier is awesome. I also use the rack in the winter time for snowboards. I really wish the rear seats folded down so I could put the snowboards in the trunk but that's just me.

I don't leave the rack on the car, its on and off. I always try and make sure the roof is clean before I put the rack on to prevent the rubber foot pads from scratching the paint. Next time its on I'll take a picture.

Check out Thule's website for the proper fit kit. All in all its a pretty versatile and easy to install system. It's not cheap but it works well.

Get a stage 1 hitch put on and use a rear mounted hitch rack or your ganna strach your G for sure putting bikes on your roof. Pedals will leave some afully nasty straches. I'm doing this to my 06 sedan, will post pic's when finished. You can also put 4 bikes on a hitch mounted rack and it comes off when your not carring bikes.

I would add the hitch and do it that way.

I've already started designing a roof rack and I have abundant material from work that they call 'scrap.' Seriously, how is 22 ft (1/8" wall) of aluminum c-channel considered garbage?

But you guys are right. My bike is light enough to where I can hoist it above me without touching the car... but my g/fs bike... not so much.

So who makes the stage 1 hitch?

Roof racks (couple of different types) were available as an accessory for the JDM V35 Skyline, have seen it in the parts catalogue...

I second the use of the Thule rack. It works great on my '04 sedan. Here are some pics from member NickS.

I use a Yakima rack that I also had used on my RSX, mostly for snowboarding. I don't like have bikes on top of the car. Only thing I had to buy was a new set of clips. You might be able to find someone selling a set pretty cheap on craigslist. Last time I checked, Yakima and Thule do not recommend the rear mounted carriers for our cars. I would also that the aluminum trunk might bend or dent easily with the extra weight.

Whoa. I must have missed that memo. Did something change for the 05 models? Otherwise I was only aware that the hood sheet metal was aluminum.
