Taillight LED's Not Coming On

Hi i have a 2003 G35 and i noticed yesterday that on the left taillight the LED's on the 3rd row aren't coming on. The first and second row light up fine.

Has this happened to anyone before and is there anything i can do to fix this or do i have to buy a whole new taillight?

Pretty sure you'll need a new headlamp assembly. Shouldn't cost too much to replace, there are a bunch of ppl who have upgraded to 05-06 tails who will probably sell their used ones for cheap. Also check Ebay.

I have a set I'd be willing to sell...as a set though, not individually.

I just saw someone else have this question in another thread, was that you?

Either way you will need to replace your light. Unlike the headlights, the taillights are a huge pain to open up. Even if you got them open without damage there is no saying if you would be able to fix the problem LED's or replace the whole board.

Since you have the 03/04 lights which are not in demand like the 05/06 you would be better off looking on ebay or something for one.

after you take the non-working taillight out, take it apart to get the LED's and you can fab some GTR-style light bars for the front... or send it to me and i'll make them for my wife's 03... :)

they may glow red though... don't know if the LED is red behind the lens or not.... I would think it was just a white led

ok new information this morning when i checked the tail lights again all the led's were on.... however when i reached back home and checked them again the third row was back off.

Anyone know what can be causing this? And does this mean i don't need to buy a new tail light?

Loose connection probably, like ttrank said, it's hard to take apart unless u want to try it out.

They are definitely not white LED's behind the lens. They are red LED's. White LED's are about 3x more expensive compared to red/orange LED's. It would make no sense to use a white LED behind a red lens when you can just use red LED's for much cheaper.

If you want the exact same type of LED's as inside the taillights, go check out Philips Lumileds superflux LED's, or the Liteon LTL91XXXXXX superflux LED's.

You might be correct, I just had to go verify for myself WHY...

For best results the LED color should be the same as the lens color. As an example: a red lens will filter out all but the red portion of the light so if the light is all red, none or very little light will be blocked by the lens. The light from a White LED contains very little light in the red portion of the visible spectrum so most of the light would be filtered out by a red lens

Factory LED's in the Taillight are White.

proven from a member here rugratcoupe, who disassembled them.

^^ not correct, LEDS are RED

I have taken them apart many times myself... check the sequential mods in my signature. The lens/package on the LED is clear, but that does not mean the LED illuminates white.

This is very true. LED's are monochromatic (outputs a narrow wavelength of light) as opposed to an incandescent which spews light all across the spectrum. You can use a color lens behind an incandescent and still get something. With an LED, you will get much less output behind a different colored lens.

my ref is from another member who does geat one-off mods, so he said it was white, i personally did not. also he was ref. to coupe taillights. actually i do have an open set of coupe taillights, ill try to plug them in this weekend to verify the color with pixs.

I have done coupe tail lights also. They light up red. I'd post the pic, but photobucket seems down (as can be seen if you look at the coupe sequential thread in my sig). I do not want to sound condescending, I just want the correct information to be out there.
