Flatulent G35X

Hi all!
My new X has gas......or something!
Whenever I pull out of my driveway, no matter how long it has been warming up, it makes a "farting" sound about 30 feet down the road.
O.K., it's not really a fart, but more of an extended 'grunt'..(kind of like Marge Simpson's sisters)
Is this the electromagnetic clutch making adjustments?
Is this only on the 'X' cars?

Gassy in Chicago

Re: Flatulent G35X

Now that you mention it, it does seem to come from the front of the car. Anyone else have a grunting G ??

(gas-x........funny)

Re: Flatulent G35X

I get the same noise. It's even worse if you happen to be braking at the 2nd the noise happens. I took it to the dealer to ask them about it and they said that it is the traction control initializing. I'm not sure if I believe them because I don't remember hearing the noise when I first bought the car, but maybe I'm just crazy and the noise was always there. I wonder if anyone has a more thorough explanation of what causes it.

ctxca... yeah! i've done that once before. braking when the noise happens. it made that noise sound funny and for a split second, i felt something weird in the brake pedal. now i try to wait until i hear the noise and then brake if i need to.

Re: Flatulent G35X

I know exactly what you're talking about. I was leaving a parking garage downhill and braking when it did it once and it felt like my brakes we're failing - scared the crap out of me. I do the same thing now - wait for the noise - brake. Pain in the butt. I wonder how many people are affected by this.

Yupe, that is what exactly my service manager said. Nissan has come up with this ABS calibrating system that will check your ABS in about 18 to 20 feet from the wheel moving forward. Especially when you are going down or up hill, you can hear it louder and the ABS makes that farting sound

Re: Flatulent G35X

Yup. ABS self-check.. does it everytime you start the car and hit about 7mph.

And yes, you can really feel it in the brake pedal if you're braking when it happens (like an inclined parking lot). Sometimes I don't notice it, sometimes it's really, really loud. Nothing to worry about, though, unless the ABS/VDC/Slip/whatever lights come on on the dashboard after you hear it, though.

Re: Flatulent G35X

Was trippin' on the sound the first time I heard it, because I used to hear the exact same sound from my Bonneville SSE as I drove away from the driveway - didn't have a clue what it was, and never seem to remember hearing it any other time - but first realizing the same sound was coming from a non-GM product was interesting. Thanks for the explantion.
