Fuel Door Release
Fuel Door Release
All of a sudden my fuel door won't release using the keyfob, anyone else had this happen? Know anyway to bypass that so I can open it? I think I have enough gas until Monday. LOL, guess I have to!

Re: Fuel Door Release
how do you usually open your fuel door with the keyfob? that's neat the '04 has that. in my '03, i have to hit the button twice to unlock the doors and then push the fuel door open.

Re: Fuel Door Release
Christine, when you open the driver's door, the fuel door opens (unlocks), well, usually anyway, LOL. It doesn't pop open, you still have to push on it, damn, this bugs me, I have to watch my driving the rest of the weekend now!

Re: Fuel Door Release
ahh, i see. i usually have to unlock all doors, driver and passenger. if you stand by your fuel door and press unlock twice, you can kind of hear it. while you're there, you should tell them how you took off that woman's bra. car bra, that is... heh.

Re: Fuel Door Release
I hear mine (well, usually anyway) the first click on keyfob, the passenger side is not yet unlocked! I wonder if just using the key to unlock the drivers door might open it, I'll check!

Re: Fuel Door Release
Tom, The release mechanism may be jambed. Try gently pushing on the fuel door first b4 pushing the unlock button on your remote to see if it releases the lock.
There is no emergency release in the trunk like in the Fords I've had, so other than forcing the door there is no way to get in. (Something Nissan may want to rethink).

Colin,
Wouldn't it still make the click even if it was jammed? Funny thing is, now it's working, I wonder if that's a switch right there or if it's cable actuated, I'm tempted to put a piece of duct tape over it until I can find out what's up. LOL, guess that would be a time to call Infiniti Roadside Service!

Re: Fuel Door Release
I think there is a little electric motor (actuator) at the door. Could be the connections are loose at the actuator.
Best fill it up while the door is free, and get it checked next week.

I hope it doesn't work when I take it in, seems these types of things only happen to us, not to the service guy looking for it! LOL!

Re: Fuel Door Release
Tom,
I checked my ESM and found that accessing the fuel door actuator is as easy as removing the carpeting in the trunk right side.
Get the techs to have a look at the solenoid for an obvious fault rather than waiting for the issue to return.
When you're there, ask them how to get in that door to refill the tank, when the solenoid fails. Maybe it's possible to have a (back-up) tether such as in the Fords we've had.
Stay in touch and thanks for the feedback.

Re: Fuel Door Release
Colin,
I will take it in before it happens again, for sure, don't need to be getting stuck needing gas! I wish they had put a release on the door like the other cars have, LOL, when I had my car in for service once, they gave me an i35, I was trying to figure out how to open the fuel door with the keyfob, duh...
Thanks!

Re: Fuel Door Release
Well, ran the car by the dealer this morning, of course it was working fine, he said he can't find the problem if it works, geez, so, guess I have to just keep an eye on it, it does seem to be working just fine now.

Re: Fuel Door Release
Hahaha, It'll go bad next time the tank is down to 1/4 full .
Anyway next time you get stuck, pull the carpeting down in the trunk. There must be a release of some kind there.
