What does 0-60 matter in the slightest?

Here's a hint to the OP: check out the top25 1/4 times thread in the drag section here and on my350z. Those are *real world* acceleration numbers.

Lets take Trey. Trey is probably doing under 4.5 0-60 with his DRs.

The problem is most of us that race at the strip are seeing far better 0-60 times than the mags claim. Motor Trend and Road & Track say my 03 5AT sedan is a solid 6.2 second 0-60 car in sea level air (14.6s@97mph). However, with just a Z-pipe that add 0-HP (and which Trey won't let me claim as a "stock" car ) did a 14.32@98mph with a 2.1 60'. A 14.3 correlates to a solid 5.8-5.9 0-60. It doesn't sound like a huge difference, but it really is. Essentially, 0-60 is largely based on the driver's/car's ability to achieve traction and apply all the power and it's a pretty meaningless number. You could take a bonestock 04 6MT sedan and run a 14.2@99mph with a 2.1 60 foot and run a 5.7 0-60. Then you could bolt-on a set of 26" slicks, launch at 6000rpms, yank a 1.8 60 foot and run a 13.5@99mph with a 0-60 of 5.0 seconds. Same power, same car and a .7 second difference in 0-60 and 1/4 mile ET. The only difference was traction and the ability to apply all the available power the car has to offer.

What?! No Alfas on that list? What the hell?

And they have the nerve to call themselves a reliable source?! My Alfa is the acceleration king. I think my screaming spider probably does the low 9s .... 0-60, that is.
