Dealership Repair Q's
Dealership Repair Q's
Hey guys,
About to go in for my 90k service. Dealer is suggesting a few things, wanted a few opinions. They quoted me almost $600 for the following:
1. Throttle linkage induction service
2. Belts and hoses
3. Power steering
2 and need work but the main question is with the induction service. Is this absolutely needed and a top priority right now? I'm getting great gas mileage and I have not had any engine troubles. Any advantages that you guys noticed when you got this done?
Next on the list was one of my compression rod bushings is cracked, they quoted me $550 to get this done. I've noticed the creaking sound when driving, if I put this on the back burner, will this create further problems with the rod itself or any other parts? Is this a decent price or should I look elsewhere to get this fixed?
Thanks,
Wise

If I'm looking at this right, item #1 refers to cleaning inside the throttle body and ridding of dirt, gunk, vapor build up, etc. This can easily be done by yourself for a few bucks and less than half an hour of labor. Here is the video link for the DIY procedure:

For the failed compression rods, nothing drastic will happen other than dealing with the creaking noise when going over bumps and dips on the road. Not worth the $550 to replace them when chances are they will crack again. This is one of the design flaws Infiniti dealt with for the G35.

find a local nissan mechanic and/or go to a nissan dealer to get it done at a fraction of the cost. Or if you're mechanically inclined you can do most of the work on your own.
throttle LINKAGE induction service??
sounds like BS to me. I mean, throttle linkage usually refers to the cable from your gas pedal to the fuel intake. Or, really, if you want to get very specific, the linkage where the cable actually attaches to the intake.
Power steering flush I think is silly, personally. But some recommend it at ~100k.
Belts and hoses? Well, this is not something I typically do by mileage. It is whether it needs them. If the hoses are soft, yes. If the belt is cracked or frayed, yes.
