G35S - Loaner Evaluation 1 - Cadillac DeVille

One thing led to another and the good folks at Enterprise upgraded me to a Cadillac DeVille while my car is in the shop.

I expected it to be big, and it does not disappoint. I can reach across to the passenger window on on the G but not so on the the Caddy -it is wide! It rides very quietly too with very little wind noise or road noise. I think is is those touring tires. Wind noise is helped by the fact that the window is further away from the ears. The seats are pretty good though the dash and instruments are a little crude - has digital readouts and unimpressive plastics.

The handling is not too bad for a big front driver and I was pleasantly surprised. The car did not plough or understeer that much at all. Don't get me wrong - it is not a G - but is not bad all the same.

The power was a little disappoining though. Despite the Northstar V8, the accelaration never even approaches the manic rush that the G delivers. I figured the big V8 would have gobs of torque and it is certainly not a slouch - but the G really does haul and the Caddy is not close.

Anyhow, the Enterprise folks have switched to an FX35 for now so will report on that in a few days.

Comments? Experiences?

Sometimes a highway criuser is just what is needed. I'm fixing
to drive to our annual week long vacation in Destin Florida in
18 days. The one way mileage is around 600 miles. It takes
us about 10 hours of interstate freeway driving. That Caddy
sound like it would be much better than the G35 Sedan for
trip comfort!

I think I'd agree with you on the Caddy being nicer on the road, but hope it wouldn't put anyone to sleep driving it!
