My Viper Alarm Details: Opinions Wanted!
My Viper Alarm Details: Opinions Wanted!
I went with the Viper 791XV (it's still being installed, the G35 is apparently a PITA to instal an alarm on because of the way the wiring in the door is?)
Anyways.. here's the details:
the 791XV is one of those 2 way remotes that tell you what is happening which door, trunk, hood, etc.
I am going with TWO dual-zone proximity sensors:
1 for the inside cabin which will work for the actual car, the doors, the rear of the car.
1 for the engine bay, which will ONLY fire forward, to protect the lights.
In both proximity sensors, the first zone is if your within a foot of the car, the next is if you stay there for about 5 seconds(I don't recall the value) the actual alarm will sound.
I went with the battery backup too. I figured, if I'm going to do this, might as well do it right.
Anyone else have the microwave proximity sensors or have any opinions?

Re: My Viper Alarm Details: Opinions Wanted!
im not too keen on the dual proximity sensors. i just went with the single zone for the interior in the event my windows are rolled down and someone tries to steal my radar detector or other goodies.
i'm a pessimist so this is how it plays out in my head: basically wherever you park, there will be someone who will want to park next to you. when they get out, they will most likely be close enough to set off the dual zone proximity sensor, get scared / pissed, and then ding / scratch your car because their heart rate rose a few beats.
the proximity sensors are pretty sensitive. my alarm goes off on occasion due to my cell phone being left in the car or to some external source of electromagnetic radiation. the latter is rare and probably happens 2x / month. the former happens more often than i'd like to admit .
in the end, it's totally your preference. iirc, you just recently had your car vandalized. they will undoubtedly get theirs when the time comes.

Re: My Viper Alarm Details: Opinions Wanted!
thanks for your honesty man. I'm just trying to give a bit of protection. Is it guaranteed? Obviously not.. but having the deterrant there will make them think about it a lil more. Its sad but theres ALOT of g35s here in miami without alarms.. I'm sure of it. When you throw in the fact that theres no real sensors on the OEM one.. its no wonder the lights are stolen without much resistance.
