How long should I allow the car to break in and do you recommend changing the oil after the break in period or can I just wait until the scheduled oil change.

Follow the guidlines in your owner's manual. (No full throttle or panic stops, don't keep a constant speed (no cruise control), and keep it under 4000 rpms for 1200 miles.)

If you want to change the oil before the first scheduled oil change, it's up to you. I didn't.
