Tl-s

I was in a friends car on the weekend which is a 2008 TL-S which he says is
290 ponies, he seems very sure his car is faster than my 03 sedan that
has the Z tube and KN filter. Would like to know how these 2 cars stack
against each other, he does have a 6 speed, and his car felt pretty quick
he has no milage and mine has over 100,000 miles. Not sure but would the rear wheel drive be better in handling and would the TL be quicker off the line.

GBOy

BTW we are too old to race....

+1 TL-S for sure.

a normal TL VS a sedan given same tranny, should be a close race but i think the edge is with the TL then as well. this is all given both drivers and take off with minimal wheel spin and etc.

The biggest downside I have toward the TL Type S 6MT is the weird Honda electrically controlled clutch... I havent actually driven a G with 6MT, but going from BMW's, Lotus' and the things that I have driven.... I HATE the 6MT Acura feel...

It is undeniably fast though!

The 3.2 TLs (2001?) are very slow. Our Gs can take them anytime, but I'm unsure about the newer ones.

There is NO comparison between the 99-03 and the 04-up.... especially once you get to 07-08 Type S... IMHO at least

My money would be on the TL.
I'll race you both and stop at the end to tell you who wins.

It's like comparing apples and oranges, you'd have to compare the new g35/37 to the new TL.

so with that said... the TL would win...

07 g35s sedan would prolly beat it. g37s sedan would kill it. an 04+ TL gave my stock 2003 a run. even the new v6 accord coupes give me a run. i still like the RWD proper balance of the G

But yer buddy has a helluva time getting a good clean launch consistently. (I know I did in my 6-speed Accord)

Other than that ... even if he is faster in a straight line ... big deal. Take it to the curves. A 6-speed '05 TL at the autoX consistently finishes 2 seconds behind me on a short 45-second course.

i dont know about you guys but i have an 03 sedan sport, and when me and my friend lined up and i had total 5 people in the car and he only had a total of 2 and he had a 07 tl, not the s, but he had a hard time keeping up with me, imagine if i had no people, the tl are lower on torque and im confident i can take a type s, i have smoked some cars like trailblazer ss (who ever didnt drive it, its fast) keep up with zs. smoked a new 325 i know they handle better but i still beat it. even the new bonneville supercharged didnt even stand a chance. the only cars that beat me was a lambo gallardo (first day i had my car) and an s4 with exaust (used to race proffesionally and smoked me in traffic) ohh and a 335 but hands down those are sick. Speaking of launching, i keep mine in D, turn of vdc, and brake torque it to about 1500 rmps and it launches sooo nice, especially if its about 30 degrees out, its a monster.

The mags list the 08 TL-S 6MT as a 14.1-14.3@98-99mph car. The mags got 14.4-14.6@96-97mph out of the 1st gen RWD G35 5AT sedans. It would be a pretty close race especially since most people don't know how to launch a high powered FWD car effectively. The guys on Acurazine.com are getting 14.2-14.4@97-99mph with their 08 TL-S'. Don't let your butt dyno fool you, the extra gearing on 6MT plus the violence of manual shifts will always make a car "feel" faster. My buddy had a 5.0 Stang with 3.73 gears and that thing felt much faster that my auto Z28 with long gears. However, his Stang ran 14.1s and my Z ran 13.6s.
