I am assuming that the tube that comes off the mid pipe (Throttle body to Mass Air Meter) that runs under and around to what appears to be the intake plenum some where is a vaccum tube of some sorts...
My question is this. I had posted about a month ago that my car went into limp mode something fierce while drivinb in the rain...well it did it the other day for an instance I though in the rain again...but then was fine. So today I ripped the entire CAI out and what I noticed was that this tube in question was kinked really bad in two spots...the tube is so long it has no where to go with all the bends in it and it just kinks up.
So I cut the tube and reinstalled it with two hose clamps as oppsed to the oem compression clamp so it would have more strength...I started the car back up after checking all connections and it ran like a raped ape.
Can someone please confirm what that tube is and what function it serves, and if it was severely kinked in two spots would that even affect the car at all.
Thanks so much.

try posting a picture so we can see what your talking about and circle where it is kinked up...

i believe that's the positive crank case ventilation hose(PCV).
Badtz, I think you are right now that I had a night to sleep on it, but what would the effects of a kinked hose have on the engine? Do you know?
Dazzo,
b/c this forum requires your own website to host pics vs. being able to upload them, I can't post a pic...sorry. If you look under your hood there are only two connection off the intake piping...one is the MAF sensor and the other is this tube/hose.

Bosssho, the hose you're talking about is the PCV hose that runs from the air inlet tube and goes down to the d/s valve cover.
I've attached a pic of my K&N intake that has the tube coming off the top of the intake (just like the stock intake). The Z-tube has the connection on the bottom which would be easily kinked.

Yeah, that's the one. I also ordered the K&N intake...which one did you get and from where? I hope, after cutting the hose, that I can still reattach the K&N intake to the **** on the K&N.
Do you know what would happen, enginewise, if that hose got kinked? No one seems to know...

Got mine thru a local shop up here in Southern Ontario (Canada). They ordered from K&N. p/n is 69-7080 TR (red) and was $250 US b4 taxes.
I like the K&N because you can run it as a short ram in off season weather, as well as a long tube ram for the summer.
The silver wrap is heat wrap to stop heat soak.
If the hose you cut is too short, you can either join the 2 pieces with a double male adapter or buy a new hose the right length. On mine there's lots of slack so you may be ok.
I'm not sure what the kink would have done, but if the check engine light has cleared it should be fine. If not, do an ECU reset or battery disconnect to reset it and you should be good to go.
I can't see that what you did will have any effect now that you've unkinked the hose.

PCV systems are described nicely here:
http://www.hastingsfilter.com/engine...tsb_94-2r.html
If the hose got kinked or closed off, the air pressure in your crank case would build up and find some other way out (really bad) or seep through the kink, but stay high overall (bad). The engine is designed so that the crank case will not be at high pressure (it's even under vacuum in some cars). When it becomes pressurized, seals may bleed, oil may get into bad places and your engine could run like crap. You could even blow out various seals. So yes, it's very conceivable that this would make your engine run badly.

Thank you. Well, it sounds like, while this could wreak a lot of havoc, that it was not what put my engine into limp mode that time in the rain...and the other day when it hesitated. After looking around a lot this weekend, it seems inconceivable that water would get any where near my air filter (way up top) even with my CAI and an exposed filter. I still have all the OEM sheilds, etc. in place...so the mystery continues.

gsedanman,
Thanks for the post...that makes me feel better. I got the other part number ending in 1...I was all done with going the long CAI route after looking at the Injen so I just got the short keep it simple stupid blue one. I am going to the dealer tomorrow to see about getting a replacement hose in case I need one...I though of the Male adapter too, but hopefully it won't come to that.
