TRAMLINING? help guys
TRAMLINING? help guys
Hi everyone,
Just had a question to see if any of you guys experienced this with your sedans, I have a 03 sedan with about 100k and experience "tramlining" (the car tends to fallow or wobble from side to side in the rear) when driving on freeways with grooves or ruts on the surface for rain. Just wanted to see if anyone else has experienced this.
The tires are new as well, NEXEN N5000's and the car currently had the alignment done.
Think its time for new shocks?
Thanks in advanced guys!

It's a factor of the road surface, the particular tires, the suspension set up, and alignment specs on these cars. It is entirely normal. My 94 Z28 and modded Maxima would tramline as well. If you don't want tramlining, you'll have to:
1) move to a state with better roads, Florida or Cali are good choices
2) buy a car/SUV with less aggressive suspension settings and taller tires
3) live with it

If you are tramlining then it is most likely your tires. Wide, low profile, uni-directional tires with stiffer side walls exhibit this behavoir more. I get it when I have my summers on, I don't have the problem with my winters.

My Mustang with 275's up front and 295's out back does this like crazy. When i put a stock set of wheels on it with "normal" tires. It stops. Low profile aggressive tires just do it. I've learned to live with it.
My G doesn't do it, and part of me doesn't want to change the wheels and tires because i like how it goes perfectly straight when i take my hand off the wheel.

Thanks for all the words guys, but the car is riding on stock sized wheels and tires. Im going to put on my work wheels to check if its the actual tires that cause the problem or if it might be suspension related (shocks)
DaveB: I live in California and the roads here are not as nice as everyone thinks =X
The car's 100% stock btw

Interesting to note. I have had this in a terrible way for several months in my former car, 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix GT on the 10 Freeway, from West LA to Downtown. Just got my G35 with Relatively Vanilla tires. I will see (when I take the Freeway, instead of the streets) if it is still here.

But it is enough to guess it is not a defect with your car.
