Lightbulb Legallity question on lights..

I live in Oklahoma and just installed my clear corners (which I love. I was hesitant at first as to whether or not they would make enough difference in appearence than the stock ones, and it does by a long shot ) But instead of switching the bulb to the orange one supplied with the clear's, I kept the factory clear bulb because I like the white light better than the amber. So my question is this; Is it legal to have the side markers clear? I figured it might be since it isn't the turn signal. Any input would be appreciated. Also, I noticed the color is slightly yellowed, but I'm not sure if it's the clear corners or the actual bulb. The bulb is pretty old and has some black at the top of it. I'm debating on wether or not I should replace them to get a brighter white but want to find out if it's legal first...

No it's not legal.

They are parking lights which must be amber in the front of a vehicle. Also, front reflectors must be amber. So by having clear reflectors on you are already illegal in the US.

If you want a more pure white light, you'll need to use white LED. Incandescent bulbs still shine with a tinge of yellow.

I have smoked clears but i run a yellow LED bulb since i felt the white LED stood out too much at night and i didn't want a ticket. Haven't had an issue with cops..but it's a measure of how much the cop wants to be an *** to you

I run yellow bulbs with my clear corners as well, for the same reason.

Wow, so I guess I'll be putting the yellow bulb back in.. but are you also saying that just having clear corners is illegal? Has anyone on here ever been ticketed for them?

I have clear corners with stock amber bulbs for over 2 years and have never been warned or ticketed.

Could you imagine seeing something like this while your driving in traffic?:

Multicolour auxiliary signals
Some jurisdictions, such as the US states of Oregon and Idaho, permit vehicles to be equipped with auxiliary rear signal systems displaying green light when the accelerator is depressed, yellow light when the vehicle is coasting, and red light when the brake is depressed. Such systems have in the past been sold as aftermarket accessories, but are today seldom seen in traffic.

Yes. But I've never even heard of anyone getting ticketed for them. I wouldn't lose sleep over it.

Lighting is another story. I have heard of and know people who have gotten tickets for illegal lighting changes. It's the reason why I run the amber bulbs in mine even though it would really take a bored cop to pull you over for them. Usually, they get the tickets if they get stopped and act like a jerk and the cop decides to give their car a complete looking over.

clear corner lenses = okay
white corner light = not okay.

IMO the only time it would bring a cop's attention to your corner light would be at night. When you have white or clear light bulbs on your JDM corner light....it's really obvious. This is why I use an amber bulb on my clear corner light as well.......you cant even tell it's a clear lense when the amber light is on.

While you might not be ticketed for the lighting changes, any cop will tell you that certain mods (especially nuisance ones like a loud exhaust or excessive bling) draw their attention. I would rather blend in-- few external mods aren't worth a $120-200 ticket b/c the mod was begging to be noticed when you made an illegal turn, or passed someone in an unsafe manner.

Also, obviously modded cars draw the attention of thieves (I know from experience), who at close up will notice your nice wheels, your expensive headlights (which sell on Ebay now for $150-200) or anything else.

most cops even when giving tickets for other things like noise, tints, and etc will completely look over clear corners. Don't stress about it.

Your right; however, most mods designed to make your car stand out (darker tint, loud noise, super-bright LED's, extremely wide tires with 20+ inch rims, etc.) also draw attention, which is the point. The clear corners are not the issue, it's not being noticed right away that was my point.

The issue isn't legal, it's perceptual. I happen to think clear corners look great, but am also a pragmatist.

Superior is right tho-- I wouldn't really sweat it out-- it becomes more of an issue as your car gets more and more external mods that make it increasingly more unique.

they dont have to be "reflectors"... they can be clear, so long as it emits an amber light.
