G35x wheel choices????

so my tires are spent. i'
m getting crazy qoutes from normal mechanics starting around 7 bills. i looked on tirerack.com, and the cheapest i could find was 380, then another hundred to throw them on the car.
i looked on cl, for some cheap snows already mounted, and someones selling some coupe rims for 400. however, they're staggered. i'ver heard conflicting reports on staggered rims on an X, some saying it could inflict major mechanical damage(i assume on the difgf or the transfer case, although no one has ever explained it, that ive seen). i've also seen at least two or three X owners who are running a staggered setup on g35driver, and i'm wondering, what is the real deal? i dont want to drop any serious money right now, cause my wife just laid off, and besides i plan on getting rims in six months or so. so i could either get the staggered setup, or i could get sh!tty 16s that are like 2 bills on cl... if i dont hear some good news i'll prob just do that rather than risk any damage to the car... so if you have any insight to offer, please dont hesitate... and if you're running staggered on an X, please post how long you've been running them and what, if any, problems you've experienced while running them.
Thanks!

ps, sorry for the horrible spelling, the work pc that isnt firewwalled is slow as b@lls!!!

True staggered is 19" front and 20" rear IMO. The G35 X cannot tell rim size or width but as long as you keep the rolling diameter close there is no problem. My winter setup is coupe 19's 8.5 front and 9 rear but I have 245/40 all around. When I had coupe 19's with the oem tire ( don't remember the size) my AWD light would go on and off. But sooner after I bought all season tires same all around no problem. Also my summer wheels are 20x8.5 front and 20x10 rear with 245/35 and 275/30. Rim width is different but I keep the rolling diameter close.
